One of my felines decided to deposite yet another Hairball on my computer. (The second in two years.) This one finally killed the computer.

That means I had to get another computer.

I have been spending most of the evening loading programs and then finding websites. Talk about a pain in the butt.

Yeah; I'll be feeling your pain soon. No cats or furballs. Mine's just outdated.

I'm guessing the pain in getting a new one won't be nearly the pain keeping this one going has been, however.

Kudos to the cat. Pretty impressive to slay a 'puter with a hairball.

How in the heck did a hairball take out a 'puter? Did kitty open the case and ralph on the hard drive? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

LOLOL

The Cat, we're not sure which one, deposited a nice juicy furball on the keyboard of the open laptop.

Furballs have a nice helping of Gastric Juices which are more than a bit acidic. These juices got down into the keyboard and shorted a ton of things out.

Some of these juices also ran down the side of the computer and into some of the cooling vents.

The computer is toast.

I'll be taking it out to the range sometime soon for a fitting destruction.

You should do what I did. Invest yourself $10 in one of those space-age polymer keyboard membrane protectors. It's saved my laptop more times than I can count. Because sometimes when I'm at the computer and I get really excited, I tend to spill my coffee.

Your kitties are now laughing behind your back and, when you're not looking, giving high-fives with their paws. Even now, they draw lots to see who will cough up the next hairball on the next computer you buy

Coffee ... is that what you're calling it now?

About a year ago my cat took down the cable box/DVR the same way. I lost around 25 hrs. of recorded programs.

Close the lid ?

Easy way to keep cats in line. Say to them this magic phrase.

"Violin strings."

SeaCat since I don't see any other recommendation like this. I would recommend getting an external hard drive of about double the capacity of the one in the laptop.

Then do a weekly backup.

When my hard drive died a couple of years ago it took every pic we had of our house being built and a ton of other stuff.

Amazon has a 500G externals for about $50-70. I'll bet you would have thought that money well spent when you were decrapifying your new system and trying to find all of your old book marks.

BTW my wife has a really good receipt for pasta and clear clam sauce. I'll send it to you if you are interested. PM me.

Good luck.
