This is a tiny fraction of the pretty damn spectaular public art that distringuishes the subway stations of Stockholm, Sweden. It's not exactly slick and stylish like some metros (Athens is worth a peek), but instead it's balls to the walls fun.

I pass through a couple of those stations on a daily basis, and have gotten so used to them that I barely even notice it anymore. It took a foreigner with an un-jaded eye to remind me that it's really quite cool.

I'll raise my eyes and take in the scenery with new appreciation tomorrow.

What's awesome about where I have decided to end up living--Charlottesville, Virginia--is that it's just about a perfect mix of everything good in medium-city living. And this is borne out by list after list of "best town for . . ." articles.

Of course living here as well as about anywhere else is helped if you bring a pile of rejuvenating money with you.

(Just said "no thanks" to the cheapest available seats at the nearby arena of $131 apiece to see the Manheim Steamroller.)

We have 4 seasons. Very unusual for a California city.

Leu Gardens. Ulaven and I just took a tour for our wedding anniversary. This was my favorite tree: Silk Floss Tree. Beautiful pink flowers, and a trunk of spines.

Beautiful rose garden:

And an overlook into a lake that has warnings all over the place to beware the cottonmouths and the alligators.

A whole garden dedicated to agave.

And more butterflies than we could count.

My sea view from every room in the house (except the downstairs toilet).

The kitchen sink faces the sea.

I'm the only awesome thing around these parts. And I say that with humility and irony.

I put up my Christmas lights today in sunny 78 degree weather. I am 30 minutes from South Beach, 30 minutes from the Keys, and 30 minutes from the Everglades. Should I go on?

Usually mild weather.

Within driving distance of places like Miami, Orlando, The Everglades, and the Space Coast.

Year round SCUBA Diving.

Year round riding weather.

An interesting mix of ethnic foods.

Amusing local politics.

Cat

The most awkward weather ever... Hillbillies, rednecks, cornfields and farm equiptment...
Oh, and that dead deer on the freeway overpass that's been there for 2 weeks. :(

:rolleyes: There is nothing cool here.

Oh wait! No.. nope, lost it.
(lol. :D)

Here on the Treasure Coast of Florida, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian River Lagoon, the Inter-coastal Waterway and the Sebastian River are all awesome in their own right. I have boated, swam and fished in all of them and it's quite an experience.

Nature, in and of itself is awesome and I'm right in the middle of it. :D

Within driving distance of the coast. Within an hour of a fairly large city. Within an hour of Blue Ridge Mountains. Mostly mild winters. Excellent peaches during the season.

Most people look at the downsides of small town life. Being a shy type, it's the perfect place for me.

Hmmm. Sounds like you live in Charlottesville too--although we're only 30 minutes to the Blue Ridge.

Nope. Hubby used to have family there, though. :) A bit further south. :D

Although we're nudged up against the Blue Ridge, a 250-mile drive will put us either on the Maryland shore or the OBX. Just 100 miles to D.C. and all that's there or Richmond (and what little there is there).

A great thing about C'ville is that, being the home of the Dave Matthew's Band and their manager, impressario Coran Capshaw, we have stage venues of all sizes and all of the traveling shows of all variety trapse through here and are on offer. There's always something playing or coming up that is national/international scale.

It could depend on how one defines 'awesome'.

There are three art colleges here. For an artist and photographer of the female nude, that's paradise! Of course, trying to get anything beyond 'art' and more into 'erotic' is a bit more tough...even here!

Seriously, it's the history. We're one of the oldest cities on eastern coast.

Sounds like Savannah--which is a delightful place. But I only know of one art college there (but it's a good one).

Old? How old do you want?

Within a ten mile radius of where I live are:

A Roman Fort;
The remains of a Saxon church;
Several Bronze and Iron age settlements;
A place where anyone can find fossilised multi-million year-old sharks' teeth;
A Tudor gateway;
Several places mentioned in the Domesday Book;
Three World Heritage Sites;
and I keep finding nineteeth century pottery pieces in my garden which was the site of a tea hut. They must have broken a lot of the crockery.
