"...Reagan began his political career as a liberal Democrat, admirer of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and active supporter of New Deal policies,..."

From a Wiki search, "Reagan was a Democrat", if you are interested.

There is a bit of a kerfluffle concerning MSNBC and Joe Scarborough when he criticized Palin for daring to challenge the memory of President Ronald Reagan, and the 'Blue Blood' status of the Bush political dynasty, when Barbara Bush suggested the Palin should remain in Alaska.

This is more than political rhetoric Vis a vis, right and left, but more of a visceral conflict between Adam Smith free market economics and Keynsian tinkering with the market place at large.

This should be, and perhaps I will add it to, a part of my, "Palin, 2013" Thread, but as I see the 'media' making an early start to demonizing Palin, it is worthy a Thread all its' own.

It is gonna be a really contentious next two years...You Betcha!

Reagan was a Democrat, but he changed sides, when he saw the size of the checks they were offering to pump up the Defense Spending.

Winston Churchill was a Liberal. He became a Conservative.

He was a Minister for the Liberals. He was Prime Minister of a coalition government throughout most of WWII. He was a Conservative Prime Minister. He was the son of an English Aristocrat and a American.

Politics change. People do. So what?

I'm sorry, I thought Reagan was an actor. I always presumed he played the roles he was hired for, including that of US President. I wonder how things would have gone if he had accepted the role of Rick in Casablanca?

Chuchill was first elected to Parliament as a Conservative in 1900. he changed to the Liberals in 1904 before reverting to Conservatism after the first WW.

He was responsible with Lloyd George for introducing the centralised Welfare State in 1909/11 particularly aged pensions, probably his second most important legacy.

His wife called him "Pig" a fact generally omitted from official biographies.

Basically he sought power wherever it was.
