Our shops at etsy-- and elsewhere

I think we need two crafters threads, one to talk about our crafts for fun, and one to advertise the places where we sell them, if we do.

here are mine;

And in a slightly different vein (but not so much different really)

I have always been a "maker."

Damn! Those are absolutely beautiful. How do you make the wands – do you start with dowel rods, and use a lathe, or something else? Do you get customers who buy them as conversation pieces, or maybe for medieval fairs?

And does the wand really choose the wizard?

Note to self; make a photo heavy blog post about this! :)

I use lumber, cut into slightly tapered turning blanks, or sometimes natural branches if I'm lucky enough to find ones that fit and aren't too elbowed, and I shape them on a lathe. I have a nice old Delta, sounds like a truck idling... but really no vibration!

People buy them because they really believe in magic,
because they are wiccan (which is not quite the same thing as "really believing in magic") and need one for their altar ceremonies,
because they wanted a magic wand since they were five years old,
because they have no better idea of what to buy someone for their Birthday...

All kinds of reasons!

In my experience, magicians choose their wands. But I have had people claim otherwise.:)

But check out the *other* shop, guys! That's my vintage collection and my sewing skills. The sewing machine was the first power tool I mastered-- just before the circular saw.:D:D

I like shop number one, but I'm in love with shop number two. Oh, Victorian fashion, oh, how I love thee.

Are you a hat wearer? Those old floral hats are so tiny in head size. Or at least, the ones I've found are...

Well, they aren't meant to fit over your entire head, but rather to sit precariously atop your fabulous hairdo, held on with hat pins.

I own a lot of hats but rarely wear them, only because I don't have very many hat-appropriate opportunities.

Oh I know, that's criminal isn't it?

A crowd I used to hang out with in the 80's-- we would met for brunch at the Famous Fairfax Farmer's market on Sundays.

Hats were dress code, just so we could have a chance to wear them!

I don't really get the wand thing, but they are lovely. they should be thicker with a slightly bulbous end though. I love the victorian site. and who is the gorgeous girl?

I have an etsy site but nothing up for sale yet. still waiting on getting castings sorted.

my own site is here:

www.gentle-medusa.com

I did PM Laurel to ask if it was ok to spam it a little on here, but received no reply yet.
