Hi all!
I'm looking for an editor for a story that will span lots of chapters and probably split off into branches eventually. I took a look at the long list of editors and was quickly overwhelmed by choices and without knowing who was actually available, I thought I'd try here.
Here's a breakdown of what I'm writing and what I'm looking for in an editor. I know it's longer than most posts but I'm going to try to save time by laying it all out on the table.
My story follows three girls who get accepted into a secret college that will probably feature traditional vampires (not the sparkly kind) and werewolves (not the horse-sized kind) and maybe other things too... but molded to shape the world I've created. I'll be honest and say this is an outlet and response for all the YA novels I've had to read resently for research. I've suffered through most of the supernatural stuff available to teens these days and, after the bubble-gum bath, I felt the need to balance things out with something kinky. As the Blue Bloods series was my latest, I thought I wouldn't mind setting my story in a school but to make sure everyone was over 18, I went with a college... so expect girls in uniform.
My writing tends to get into a complicated weave of information that comes together to create the world in which my characters exist... it's not all explained at once with a simple breakdown and this particular series has lots of history interwoven throughout and we only get clues as to whats going on in small doses. It's in third person, following one of the three girls at any given point in time, and since I have three stories going on at once, at least one sexy moment will happen in each chapter... so far each chapter is 2-4 Lit pages (Word count: chap 1- 7900, chap 2- 5100, chap 3 - 11000)
As for categories, so far the three chapters that I've written and posted here deal with a variety of topics: non-consent/first time, horror/mind control, and masterbation/voyeur, but it will mostlikely dwell in erotic horror or nonhuman for the most part. The three girls are very different so will probably come across different circumstances... you can expect everything from sweet romance to a little BDSM, and any category could make an appearance depending on the situation (tho I don't plan on any taboo, one of the characters is a Roman girl who had a thing for her brother way (way) back in the day, so who knows what might happen there).
I usually am very structured and know the beginning, middle, and end before I even start writing but my writing for this site will probably be a rebellion against my research-style and will simply plunge straight in and let me discover the world along with the characters based on what happens. Some of it will probably be romantic, but please be prepared for chase scenes, abductions, guns, and all out war between two schools when the occasion arises... vamps still don't like weres in this world and the likelihood that they ever will is slim.
I'm looking for an editor who will help me proofread and notice grammar mistakes. I'm pretty good but slip-ups do happen and I have to read things three or four times to catch an oops... even today as I was rereading the third chapter which finally got posted, I found 3 more errors and finally decided to seek out help from a fresh set of eyes. I'm new to writing erotica so I may need help there too... like if a scene isn't long enough, etc.
I'm usually so excited to finish a chapter that I can't wait to get it posted asap - so I'm hoping to team up with someone who can read it fairly quick. Also, since it's in book form I know readers who get into it will probably want the next chapter asap and I want to put up something at least once or twice a week... anyone up for that ? I'm okay with one editor but if it's too much then I can work with two or three if everyone's cool with that.
I write in Word but I can submit it another way if you like. I don't really want anyone to make changes themselves but point out things [like this] or in red or highlighted or something... this is a learning process for me too so I'd like to correct my own mistakes so I don't make them in the future. Comments in the text or in list form are okay with me- or if you have another way of going about things let me know.
