Does openly supporting an obvious racist (Ginny) make one a racist?

I have always wondered about Jeopardy. The contestant always says "I'll take Racist douche bags for $20", or whatever is at the top of the column.

i would be surprised if she showed up. i don't know ginny at all, but i appreciated what you posted in this thread. i've have friends with very different world views from me. i think you either have to take them as they are, or move on.

If you've developed a friendship with someone you've at least got a reason for not immediately cutting them off -- it's the posters who ignore the hateful, vile things that are said just because it comes from a pretty girl or because they think they can get some, for whom I simply lose respect (if I had any to start with.)

What Ginny said was vile. I thought she was an OK chick before, but this changes my opinion of her because I simply don't know anything about her other than her pic threads and that comment. For others who know her for more than that, that comment might not necessarily completely negate the rest of who she is. What people say shapes how we see them, at least on the internet.

Even Mel Gibson cannot escape the consequences of what he has said and he is close to (or is) a billionaire star with movies under his acting AND production belt.

I didn't find this thread whiny. I think unless there's light shone on the bullshit people do and say, they're going to keep doing it. They might keep doing it anyway but public disapproval can be a compelling force.

It's called standing up for what's right and calling people out who do reprehensible things.

Nobody was accused of being whiny for piling on Brad Garrett for his racial slurs against a paparazzo or Michael "Seinfeld/Kramer" Richards for his infamous outburst.

It says a lot, in a very negative way, about the GB when you have to outright state that a thread like this is not whiny. This forum, as I've said before, is a haven for sociopaths.

It would be irresponsible of me to ignore those possibilities before moving on. My responsibility lies entirely in my private relationship with her, and not what has been seen on the boards.

The words she chose felt like they came from someplace a little deeper than just the region of the brain you use for being throwaway pithy or forgettably hipster-racist snarky on the internet. It might be from an honest place within herself that she hasn't shown you yet, in your private relationship with her. Maybe you weren't meant to see it, if she had her druthers. If that was honesty from alcohol, then she needs a better bartender.

She'll have to live with that honesty. I don't have to accept it. Just like I don't have to accept second-hand anecdotal contrition for that bullshit. Doesn't mean I think she's a monster or that I deserve something from her. But that is her and she had enough care to be glib about it as a response. Instead of saying, "you know what, that was a real fucked-up thing to say and I apologize for it. Let's move on."
