A fund manager for Smith Barney is getting off without felony charges after he allegedly ran over a cyclist with his Mercedes and fled the scene in Eagle, Colorado, because, the DA says, felony charges would be bad for the fund manager's business.

Looks like the Republicans are at it again!

This man will help reelect Obama, if the liberals will attack this point hard.

That ain't a fund manager; if he works for Smith Barney, he's a salesman ( a/k/a a "stock broker," s/k/a a "financial consultant" ). As a stock broker he is a member of what is known as the "sell side"— in distinct contrast to someone on the "buy side."

In theory, the "buy side" has a fiduciary obligation to the customer; that is not the case for the "sell side."

These are very important distinctions.

It shouldn't matter if he Buys or Sells. The important distinction is did he hit the cyclist? Did he flee the site of the collision? and most important , can they fix the Mercedes?

2012 electioneering already?

[QUOTE]“The problem with America in a nutshell,” one blogger posted over the weekend. “If you have enough $$$, you can get away with anything.
Cycling enthusiasts are saying it’s an example of how prosecutors go easy on drivers who hit cyclists.

“Hit and run? No problem, as long as your job is making billions, you should be cool,” the blogger added. “Everyone else ... not so much.”

The story was picked up in the Huffington Post and ABC News carried an item on the case Monday.

Said Atlanta Journal Constitution columist Jay Bookman:
“Erzinger didn’t kill anyone, but he sure wracked his victim up pretty good and then drove away without any apparent concern for his safety. Yet he walks away with a misdemeanor — a decision the DA admits is driven by Erzinger’s earning power...”

Milo’s attorney is Denver lawyer Hal Haddon. In a letter to prosecutors, Haddon expressed outrage at Hurlbert’s decision. “He [Milo] will have lifetime pain. His ability to deal with the physical challenges of his profession — liver transplant surgery — has been seriously jeopardized.”

Haddon and his partner, Pamela Mackey, aren’t strangers to the Vail DA. Mackey was lead defense lawyer for Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, accused of sexually assaulting a hotel worker in Vail in 2003. The charges were ultimately dropped when the victim in the case said she would not testify in the case against Bryant.

A civil case brought against Bryant by the woman was settled for undisclosed terms.

The driver of the Mercedes was quoted as saying he was not aware that he hit anyone....

And George W. wasn't aware (or concerned) he caused the deaths of a million in his quest to rid the world of Daddy killers. Ignorance of your actions is no excuse.

As for Class Warfare, there is strength in numbers. 1% vs. 99%, guess who will be smothered?

The issue is Law Enforcement. If the Dr. had hit the Salesman would it be any different? Wouldn't the DA do the same thing, after all the DR. would have to pay the Salesman.

But let a cowboy hit a Stock Broker and someone is going to jail.

Why do you spew such bullshit? What he got away with was far less than murder. He should be in jail and it's wasn't a republican or a democrat that let him go free...it was the state of Colorado.

But then politicians and those with money or those in high places ( I have never heard of a sherpa(sp) going to jail ) don't go to jail or get charged. It doesn't matter what you party affiliation is ( mine is the sex party ) you just have to grease the right palms, then stroke the right cock.

In the Bush autobiography, now on sale, "We weren't hit again!" was his reply to those anti war folk who disagreed with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Besides that, during the Clinton admininstration, Congress had already approved the plans to remove Hussein as leader of Iraq.

Class Warfare, strength in numbers? Are you for real?

Other than what I read, neither you nor I know the particulars of this case. That it is being used internationally as a class warfare incident, is old hat, tired rhetoric that should be retired.

One does hope that justice will be served in this and every incident based on equality under the law.

Money does talk, however; those who have it own homes, those who don't, rent.
