I got a D on my statistics midterm. That means I will have to get, what, a B- on my final to pass the class? I don't have any confidence that I'll be able to do that because I studyed like hell, and felt absolutely well prepared for my first exam, walked out of it feeling like I got an A, and then I got a C-. So, don't think I'll be able to get up a whole letter grade for the final. Nope.

I got my new glasses today! I took a pic, but it's with my shitty webcam. Dunno if you can tell much about them, but I just wanted to share. The frames are red, and my hair and makeup are not "did," LOL.

Cute!

bi_bunny: very nice hon :)

DGE: I'm guessing that it'll be just fine. All the funniest men I've known have used humour as a shield, some of us just expect that to be the underlying reason :rose:

blurt: I was denied promotion due to the risk of me getting pregnant?! Funniest thing I've heard all year, they clear have never heard of the womb of doom. (Yes, I like black humour, if you don't, bite me)

Trying to wear ever so slightly weighted nipple jewelry: ow.
A very intense and much pleaded for tit mauling: ow.
Swapping out jewelry to something less painful: ow.
All three in one night: OW MOTHER FUCKER OW GOD DAMN

but I'm a happy girl.

I have the cutest hoops with green rhinestone shamrocks attached to the ball connector. They don't weigh much more than twice my normal hoops, but they feel like bowling balls when I have them in!

Gee Molly, that kind of thing is illegal here. Do you have a Human Resources department to help you out?
:rose:

Actually if you read closely the law only covers discrimination regarding race, age, sex, religion, and disability. You can be denied employement becuase you're fat, have brown hair, wear pink shoes, anything as long as it's not one of the 5 mentioned and there's not a thing you can do about it except sue.

At least in Ohio, or any other employement at will state

In the states, possible pregnancy would fall under the "sex" part and, it's been a really freaking long time since I had to look at the law, but I believe it's also in violation of the Family Leave Act.

That's in the states though.

Again, you'd have to have a lawer here to file your case infront of a judge in order to really have a case. Here anyway. But then federal law says that I get a 1/2 hour break when I work more than 5 hours and I haven't had a break in 5 years.

Sorry, I'm a little bitter about labor laws.

Wait, I don't get this. Why do you need a lawyer?

In Canada, I go the labour relations board, file a complaint and they investigate. I went to the LRB when I was 17 because my employer jacked me around and put me on suspension, (which was totally bogus and just designed to intimidate me and two co-workers who had asked for a completely fair pay raise). Anyway, they went after the company and all three of us were financially compensated.

Is there no similar organization in the US? What's the deal?

There is in my state, but it's highly possible that it varies depending on the state. We're oh, so consistent like that.

Weird. I would think that fair labour laws and a governing body to enforce them would be a no brainer...for all states.

HAHAHA You WOULD think that.

:(

"Right to work" states make me sad. You have a right to work, but that's pretty much your ONLY right.

I am so proud that Seb is a Union man.

Bingo.

Been to the state labor board, even looked into it on a federal level, and I was told that since I live in an "employment at will" state, state law over rules federal, and my state regulations suck ass. Basically, like I said, as long as they aren't discriminating based on the top 5, they can terminate employment any time they like, just like I can.

Wow...maybe I just was thinking that it was a no-brainer.

Absolutely!
See above.....

What really sucks is my profit center crosses over into Kentucky. Kentucky actually inforces the federal laws. If you are on that side of the river you get a 30 and 2 10 minute breaks. You would think that since we work for the same company, and in the same profit center we would all get same treatment. But nope, since they can fuck us over, they do.

Man, that's incredble, wenchie. They've got you over a barrell, so to speak.
:rose:

Have you ever thought of transferring stores? Granted, you'd have to move across the state line to keep from getting jacked on taxes, but at least the job would wear on you a little less.

few reasons I don't

I like the area I live in, and not so much the area that my stores over the river are in.
I rather like this store. Yes it's old as dirt and falling down around us, but I like the people and customers for the most part.
And the biggie, Since I'm salary, I don't get to choose where i go, They just up and move me when they want to. And being a salary manager, I'm also exempt from those laws that they have in place down there anyway. Even federal law fucks you that way.

"Right to work for less" states. And the employment at will thing is just sad, wenchie. If working people realized that they were more numerous than the wealthy (and stop fantasizing that they will become wealthy), things could change.

My, what a novel idea! That almost sounds like something that some of those crazy anarchists might have said. You know, the ones who got us basic labor laws like lunch breaks, minimum wages, and livable working hours.

See, if we'd just get rid of those insane embarrassments to freedom, and let everyone work for a ha'penny an hour, guvna, we'd have full employment, and less fatties (no lunch!).

No. We are not going back.
