90% of Black People Vote Democrat, should that make them INELIGIBLE to vote?

Tea Party garb, or a Gadsden Flag, disqualifies someone from being able to vote because it’s symbolism is tantamount to electioneering?

Well, given the statistic that 90% of black people vote democrat, I would have to submit that being black is tantamount to electioneering at a polling place, no?

I know that sounds awfully bad, but, correct me where my thinking has derailed?

BLACKS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO VOTE

Tea Partier denied the right to vote in…Texas!

via The Daily Caller

A Texas woman was denied the right to vote on Monday because she was wearing a button bearing a Gadsden flag — the rattlesnake under the words “Don’t Tread on Me” that has become the unofficial image of the Tea Party.

Katrina Pierson, who sits on the steering committee of the Dallas Tea Party and is also involved with the Garland Tea Party, told The Daily Caller that “around 11 o’clock yesterday,” a Garland Tea Party member, reported that she was told by an election official that she could not vote unless she removed her button. A second election official, Pierson said, did not recognize the button and did not understand why the other official was not permitting the woman to vote.

According to Pierson, the woman refused to remove her button, saying it was a violation of her first amendment rights, and called the sheriff’s office. The sheriff passed the matter on to the Dallas County Election Department, which failed to act.

The woman opted not to vote until she had done more research and figured out whether or not the election official was allowed to do that. The Garland Tea Party is currently conducting that investigation on her behalf.

“If we have to file suit against the county, we will,” says Pierson.

Pierson said that she had heard of a similar incident in Waco, Texas, where a voter was not permitted to vote while wearing a Waco Tea Party T-shirt.

Election officials, apparently, were concerned that sporting such symbols constituted electioneering, which the Texas election code specifically prohibits within “within one hundred feet” of the polls.

But Pierson says, “It’s not electioneering, it’s not a candidate, it’s not a party affiliation.”

The Dallas Tea Party does not consider itself a political party. The code of conduct listed on its website defines the group as such: “The Dallas Tea Party is, and will continue to be, an expressly non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to citizen education, empowerment and engagement.” The code says the group will not “issue … endorsements of candidates” nor will it campaign for any candidate in any way. This is a significant difference from Tea Party groups such as the Tea Party Express, which endorses and campaigns for candidates.

The Dallas Tea Party has sent an e-mail to various Tea Party groups around the state notifying them of what happened, and is calling for people to not back down:

“We encourage you to wear a Gadsden Flag T-shirt or ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ button when you go to cast your vote,” the e-mail says. “If you are denied your right to vote because of your open public support of the tea party movement, we encourage you to DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.”

Asked why, as this seems counterproductive if members will not be permitted to vote, Pierson explained:

“They’re Tea Party members, and we stand for constitutional rights, and the first amendment being a very important one. If being an American citizen disqualifies you from voting, then we have a bigger problem than we thought.”

Meanwhile in Chicago a few days ago…

http://iowntheworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/r2326963810-300x192.jpgFirst lady Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois law — when she engaged in political discussion at a polling place!

The drama began after Mrs. Obama stopped off at the Martin Luther King Center on the south side of Chicago to cast an early vote.

After finishing at the machine, Obama went back to the desk and handed in her voting key.

She let voters including electrician Dennis Campbell, 56, take some photos.

“She was telling me how important it was to vote to keep her husband’s agenda going,” Campbell said.

According to a pool reporter from the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES at the scene, the conversation took place INSIDE the voting center, not far from the booths.

Illinois state law — Sec. 17-29 (a) — states: “No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place [or] within 100 feet of any polling place.”

A top Ilinois State Board of Elections official tells the DRUDGE REPORT that Mrs. Obama — a Harvard-educated lawyer — may have simply been ignorant of the law and thus violated it unintentionally.

“You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?” the official explained late Thursday. “I mean, she’s pretty well liked and probably doesn’t know what she’s doing.”

WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS ELECTIONEERING

When questioned about the brazen nature of Mrs. Obama’s campaigning, press secretary Robert Gibbs defended the action.

“I don’t think it would be much to imagine, the First Lady might support her husband’s agenda,” Gibbs smiled.

Democrats invented the Klan, Jim Crow, segregation, and slavery. Pubs elected the first black Senator and House member. Own it!

The ancient Democratic party you are referring to would not recognize today's Democratic party at all. Mostly because the ancient Democratic party was the conservative party and the ancient Republican party was far more liberal.

I'm am so sick of political ads on TV.
One thing Canada does right is the short election cycle.

Free speech today is supremely restricted when it comes to politics...

Quite a U turn from 1791, when "Congress shall make no law..." was made the law of the land, specifically to address political free speech.

The Gadsden flag prohibition is simply the same old socialist trail along the footpath for fellow travelers to a day when proudly displaying Old Glory will be prohibited, too, as "electioneering".

Don't laugh...

@cebalrai No point in even trying to debate with these idiots.

'debate' isn't really a concept here. The intent seems to be to say outrageous and hatefull things - whether one believes them or not.. largely in an attemp to have somebody pay attention - even if the attention is disbeliefe and shock.

You'll notice that a 'conversation' rarely lasts longer than 15 posts.. and then off we go to the next inane assertion.

The waste of time has been perfected.

Rescind the 14th Amendment and end their citizenship. The GOP gave them citizenship, and it can take it back.

Because he says so, you believe him?

Why not? Is there a reason for him to lie about it? There are plenty of racists Democrats. They're fine with blacks and other minorities, as long as they don't date their daughter. They send their kids to private, predominantly white schools only because they can get a better education. Please...

I grew up with people like that, knew their families. They'll advocate for minorities all day long if it gets them their support, and still look down their nose at them, and talk about them like they are shit when not in mixed company. Saying racists aren't Democrats is naive. It's like the president of Iran saying there are no homosexuals in Iran. Just because he wishes it were that way doesn't make it true.

The old GOP was never liberal. Read some of Lincoln's speeches.
