On September 23, 2010 Ray Cortopassi of Fox59 in Indianapolis reported (full story) that the local bakery Just Cookies (yelp) refused to make cupcakes for a National Coming Out Day event.

“I explained we’re a family-run business, we have two young, impressionable daughters and we thought maybe it was best not to do that,” said co-owner David Stockton.

I’m not sure if this statement scares me more than it angers me or the other way around. The language used here makes it sound like David thinks that by painting rainbow colors on a cupcake, his daughters are going to turn into lesbians.

He acts as if, in order to make those cupcakes, he would have to explain to his daughters exactly what those cupcakes were for.

Family values: Gays can’t get married, join the military, have job security or buy cupcakes.

I’m going to write a yelp review, who’s with me?

That's true though! That's how I became bi, I ate half a rainbow cupcake.

Man, you make me laugh sometimes lol.

Oh by the way, Magic and computer games rocks. Have you ever played the fan expanded version of Sid Meyers Magic The Gathering Duels Of The Planeswalkers ?

Really?

Should have known with a name like Just Cookies, they probably aren't looking to broaden their horizons. By the way, the daughters mentioned in the article are at the impressionable ages of 17 and 20. Plenty of other places in town to spend my cookie dough!

I've played Duels but haven't heard about an expanded version.

He's worried about his impressionable daughters!?

What about the fact that he's impressing upon them the ideas of hate, judgement and intolerance!

Ugh! I can't stand mean, judgmental people!

It is rediculous, but the worst part is, they got free press out of it. Refusing to make rainbow cupcakes is about as immature as it is ignorant. As if the stupid things were going to rise up and make everyone a flaming homo! I agree that I just would have taken my business elsewhere, & warned my family & friends not to spend any money there. I hate that they get free promotion from this as they don't deserve it. But it also is a good reminder how ignorant so many people still are.

You know this could actually be a good story idea. Man finds recipe for cupcakes that turn people gay, and secretly feeds them to straight friends he has been lusting after!

Then in the end he could eat a cupcake himself, thinking it will have no effect since he is already gay, only to find himself straight with a bunch of horny men after him! :)

This will be unpopular, I know- but while I think the owner's decision to refuse was silly and shallow; I believe any business owner has the right to decide what that business creates and whether or not to be thereby associated with one thing or another. They can refuse to make a cake for the kkk or the black panthers- thereby not portraying support for those groups. As much as we hope people will accept whatever differences we have with them, we can't make anyone. Again, not saying they should have done this- but if they don't have the right, they may as well go to a communist country.

Que?

There is not one gay owned bakery in Indy?
It's an outrage!
The baker must be rolling in it to refuse a cash paying customer.
Gay money is green money.

They found another bakery that filled the order. Not sure if it was a gay owned bakery though.
