According to Einstein’s special theory of relativity, as an object approaches the speed of light, the energy required to propel it is immense – by the time you reach the speed of light, infinite energy is needed – this renders faster-than-light travel impossible for man.

Actually, if you think about this statement it really doesn't make sense. Einstein's theory only explains the energy needed to reach the speed of light. It mentions nothing about the energy to exceed the speed of light.

Whose to say there isn't a way to jump past the speed of light without having infinite energy? How long ago was it that science believed that the sound barrier was unbreakable? Why should the light barrier be any different?
