For those of you who wander by this thread out of curiosity, make note of the Trolls that Post Pornography, and note the lack of quality writing or even a shred of story line...this is what they say they want to restrict the Author's Hangout to; that kind of trash.

They may discuss whatever they want, but I prefer they do it on their own perverted threads and not the real author's forum.

Amicus

For ami, some horribly purple prose (Bulwer-Lytton winners)...it's just exactly your speed:
For the first month of Ricardo and Felicity's affair, they greeted one another at every stolen rendezvous with a kiss--a lengthy, ravenous kiss, Ricardo lapping and sucking at Felicity's mouth as if she were a giant cage-mounted water bottle and he were the world's thirstiest gerbil.

--Molly Ringle, Seattle, Washington (2010 Winner)

Theirs was a New York love, a checkered taxi ride burning rubber, and like the city, their passion was open 24/7, steam rising from their bodies like slick streets exhaling warm, moist breath through manhole covers stamped “Forged by DeLaney Bros., Piscataway, N. J.”

--Gordon Spik, Washington, D.C. (2008 Winner)

Detective Bart Lasiter was in his office studying the light from his one small window falling on his super burrito when the door swung open to reveal a woman whose body said you've had your last burrito for a while, whose face said angels did exist, and whose eyes said she could make you dig your own grave and lick the shovel clean.

--Jim Guigli, Carmichael, California (2006 Winner)

As he stared at her ample bosom, he daydreamed of the dual Stromberg carburetors in his vintage Triumph Spitfire, highly functional yet pleasingly formed, perched prominently on top of the intake manifold, aching for experienced hands, the small knurled caps of the oil dampeners begging to be inspected and adjusted as described in chapter seven of the shop manual.

They had but one last remaining night together, so they embraced each other as tightly as that two-flavor entwined string cheese that is orange and yellowish-white, the orange probably being a bland Cheddar and the white . . . Mozzarella, although it could possibly be Provolone or just plain American, as it really doesn't taste distinctly dissimilar from the orange, yet they would have you believe it does by coloring it differently.

Is your life really that awful that you have to put others down to make yourself feel better? If so, go right ahead because fortunately, what you think of my writing makes me concerned for about...oh, a nanosecond. Failed radio hosts aren't my idea of literary critics.

hey Ami, we're embracing the principles of Free Speech! You voted for it, you got it. sadly for you-- lots of us are using it.

We're in ur threads porning ur politics.

Give them hell AMICUS.

TGP whines like a little girl but stays in the middle of the debate from one round to the next.

How about this? How about I post pix of Dubya and the gang on every Usual Suspect thread? I mean, if we're gonna play lets play hard.

According to what I read Iman Rauf digs Sharia and the community center is in fact a terrorist recruitment and training facility. What the Usual Suspects dont get is the issue is pure insanity for them to embrace and succor in an election year.

Awwww.

That whole free speech thing is really a bitch, isn't it, ami?

I mean, it worked just fine for you when it allowed you to say whatever you wished. Too bad it allows others the same freedom. ;)

Yannow Stella, the way to manage the AH trolls is to do exactly what you've begun. Treat this in the same manner as the counter protesters to Fred Phelp's hate signs.

Well done.

The Great Mosque of Córdoba, now known as the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (English: Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption) was a mosque built by the Umayyads on the site of a Christian Visigothic Church[1] in the Andalusian city of Córdoba, Spain. It is regarded as perhaps the most accomplished monument of the Umayyad dynasty of Córdoba. After the Spanish Reconquista, it was rebuilt as Roman Catholic church with a Gothic cathedral inserted into the centre of the large Moorish building. Today the entire building is used to house the Cathedral of the diocese of Córdoba in Spain.

The building was begun in approximately AD 600 as the Christian Visigothic church of St. Vincent.[2] After the Islamic conquest of the Visigothic kingdom the Emir Abd ar-Rahman I bought the church.[3] Abd ar-Rahman I and his descendants reworked it over two centuries to refashion it as a mosque, starting in 784. Additionally, Abd ar-Rahman I used the mosque (originally called Aljama Mosque) as an adjunct to his palace and named it to honor his wife. Several explanations have been proposed to explain the mosque's unorthodox orientation. Traditionally, the mihrab of a mosque faces in the direction of Mecca; by facing the mihrab, worshipers pray towards Mecca. Mecca is east-southeast of the mosque, but the mihrab points south. Some have suggested the mihrab faces south because the foundations of the mosque were taken from the old Roman and Visigoth constructions. Others contend that Abd ar-Rahman oriented the mihrab southward as if he were still in the Ummayyad capital of Damascus and not in exile.

The mosque underwent numerous subsequent changes: Abd ar-Rahman III ordered a new minaret, while Al-Hakam II, in 961, enlarged the building and enriched the mihrab. The last of the reforms was carried out by Al-Mansur Ibn Abi Aamir in 987. It was connected to the Caliph's palace by a raised walk-way, mosques within the palaces being the tradition for the Islamic rulers of all times.

The city in which it was built was subject to frequent invasion and each conquering wave added their own mark to the architecture. The building is most notable for its giant arches, with 856 columns of jasper, onyx, marble and granite. These were made from pieces of the Roman temple which had occupied the site previously, as well as other destroyed Roman buildings. The double arches, pictured above, were a new introduction to architecture, and helped support the tremendous weight of the higher ceilings. The double arches consist of a lower horseshoe arch and an upper semi-circular arch. The Mezquita also features richly gilded prayer niches. A centrally located honey-combed dome has blue tiles decorated with stars. The mihrab is a masterpiece of architectural art, with geometric and flowing designs of plants. The Mezquita reached its current dimensions in 987 with the completion of the outer naves and orange tree courtyard.

Patio de los Naranjos, inside the Mezquita.In 1236, Córdoba was captured by King Ferdinand III of Castile and the mosque was returned back into a Christian church. Alfonso X oversaw the construction of the Villaviciosa Chapel and the Royal Chapel within the mosque. The kings who followed added further Christian features: King Henry II rebuilt the chapel in the 14th century.

The most significant alteration was building a Renaissance cathedral nave in the middle of the structure. It was constructed by permission of Charles V, king of united Spain. Its reversion to a Christian church (officially the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin) may have helped to preserve it when the Spanish Inquisition was most active.[citation needed]

Artisans and architects continued to add to the existing structure until the late 18th century.

The Great Mosque of Cordoba placed its importance amongst the Islamic community of Al-Andalus for three centuries. In Cordoba, the capital of Al-Andalus, the Great Mosque was seen as the heart and central focus of the capital.[4] The master piece was created by Abd-Al-Rahman in the 8th century.[5] The mosque’s floor plan is seen to be parallel to some of the earliest mosques built from the very beginning of Islam.[6] The main hall of the mosque was used for a variety of purposes. It served as a central hall for teaching and to manage law and order within Al-Andalus during the rule of Abd-Al-Rahman.[7] The Great Mosque had a rectangular prayer hall which had aisles standing pendicular to the qibla, the main direction towards which Muslims pray.[8] The wall facing towards the qibla had an indent on it representing the direction of Mecca to be facing that wall.[9] The prayer hall was large in size, flat with timber ceilings held up by arches of horseshoe-like appearance. The arches came from reused Roman and Visgothic columns.[10] The walls of the mosque had Quranic inscriptions written on them.[11] Some of the most prominent features were: an open court (sahn) surrounded by arcades, screens of wood, minarets, colourful mosaics, and windows of coloured glass.[12] The Great Mosque of Cordoba held features and architectural appearance similar to the Great Mosque of Damascus,[13] therefore it is evident that it was used as a model by Abd-Al-Rahman and the creation of the Great Mosque in Cordoba. 150 years following its creation, a staircase to the roof was added to the mosque, along with an extension of the mosque itself southwards, and a bridge linking the prayer hall with the Emir’s palace.[14] The mosque was later expanded even further south, as was the courtyard which surrounded the Great Mosque. The mosque itself was built in four stages,[15] each Caliph and his elite contributing to it. It is seen as a trademark of Islamic architecture. To the people of Al-Andalus “the beauty of the mosque was so dazzling that it defied any description.”[16] The Great Mosque, upon the reconquest of Spain by Ferdinand and Isabella, was adorned with Santiago de Compostela’s captured cathedral bells and turned into a Cathedral.[17].

The mosque is already there, for fuck sake. The place has been used as a masjid for quite a while now. What's up for debate is a god damn remodeling job.

The stupidity in this fake controversy is staggering.

Liar, I've seen you post this to the sound of chirping crickets a couple of times, but you're right to repeat it. However, I think it may need to be "shouted" in large type. Possibly accompanied by an audio file of someone yelling it, after that doesn't work.

THE MOSQUE IS ALREADY THERE. IT'S BEEN THERE, PEACEABLY AND WITH NO PROBLEMS SINCE JULY OF 2009.

Sorry I had to yell.

Won't be built because of all the problems it will cause? $100 million dollars in investments into the city will be turned down? I don't think so. It already exists, and the general reporting of the people who live there, the ones whose opinions matter much more than anyone else, have openly stated that they don't have a problem with it, by and large. This a true non-issue. Like the gay marriage amendment before it. Republican ignorance and bigotry fanning it's own flames. Not to say it can't be the wedge, it surely can, but it's really just more brainless posturing and pandering to the emotions and general ignorance of those most suited to ill informed outrage.

The site was chosen due to the proximity of the WTC site. That is true. The motivations ascribed to it, though, are not what the copycat screamers claim. These Muslims want to show the world what their true Muslim faith is about. By all accounts these people are exactly what they say they are. And don't think the feds haven't been up the asses and back of any Muslims of such high profile in NYC.

I support the idea of disallowing bin Laden to alter the use and the very meaning of our Constitution. The 9/11 attacks were one thing, but to allow him to dictate the execution of our Constitution is a level of "victory" that I don't wish him to have. As an American, I support the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights. To do anything else in this situation is essentially to be fighting for the other side.

Al_Andulus was a state that allowed Christians and Muslims to practise their religions freely. The original Mosque of Cordoba included space for Christians.

The Norman Kingdom of Sicily was an example of Christians allowing Muslims, Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic to work together. Some of the public buildings, including a cathedral, used artisans from all three religions to build and decorate in a fantastic mix of styles and cultures.

Knowing that people can be different and not be enemies has a long history but has to be defended against the bigots.

Your inept analogy made me think of the French. Suppose our frog friends got an itch to disrespect American soldiers buried at Normandy. It happens. Or lets say the Jappers did the same to American dead at Iwo Jima.

The church of the Holy Sephulchre in Jerusalem employs a moslem to make decisions on which of the Christian sects (there are 6 Ithink) with an interest in the church will control which parts and at which times. This moslem's official position is hereditary and has been held by the same family for over a century.

From time to time the christian priests who quarrel incessantly have openly fought each other and the Moslem has brought in the Israeli army to knock a few heads together... my idea of religious toleration.:)

That's where I got the idea, in fact.
I hope other people will join in, posting lovely sex to any hate thread that hits the top of the first page.

Dating books.

The date of a book is usually shown on the title page or on the back of the title page. In very old books or many Reader’s Digest Books it is shown on the back page.

Some dates are shown in Roman numerals.

M = 1000; D = 500; C= 100; L= 50; XL = 40; LXXXX = 90
X = 10; IX = 9; VIII = 8; VII = 7; VI = 6; V = 5; IV = 4
III = 3 ; II = 2 ; I = 1
But 9 may be shown as VIIII ; 40 as XXXX ; 90 as XC.

Some examples:

MDCCCLVIII = 1858
MMV = 2005
MDCCCXCXLV = 1895

Accurately dating a book can be difficult and can require knowledge.

A book may state “First published 1897” but could be a 1950s reprint.

A book may state “First edition thus 1950” but could just be a cheap edition of a much earlier book.

A book may state “First published in the UK 1960” but the original first edition was published in the US in 1955.

Posted in its entirety, because it's just that good. :)
Scissors for Hitler

STEP ONE: Someone claims to be deeply offended that members of some minority are being treated just like members of the majority are. Equality under the law is portrayed as an attack on the majority, an insult and an affront to their way of life.

Left-handed children need to assimilate. Our schools are bending over backwards to accommodate these children and America can't afford to do that. My family, like most real Americans, is right-handed. I don't see why our taxes should be increased every year to pay for special desks and scissors for these deviants.

STEP TWO: The indignant claim is picked up and amplified by talk radio and cable news, where it becomes embroidered with all sorts of easily disproved false assertions that, because they go unchallenged, quickly turn into the zombie lies of conventional wisdom.

Four of the last five presidents were members of this elitist cabal of the left-handed. The odds against that happening at random are astronomical. This doesn't prove that Obama is a sleeper-agent sent to trample the rights of the majority, but it would be irresponsible not to speculate ...

This is dangerous, a threat to public health. Lou Gehrig was left-handed, and we all know what happened to him. Our good right-handed children shouldn't be exposed to the threat of Lou Gehrig's disease just because ...

Our schools are tossing aside centuries of moral wisdom in a radical experiment based on the anything-goes philosophy of the '60s. Western Civilization has a long history of preventing the left-handed from serving in the military, and we can't just assume ...

You know who else was left-handed? Hitler.

STEP THREE: The president is asked about the controversy and notes that the Constitution and the law are quite clear. This further polarizes the dispute into a party-line partisan issue. The president's comments dominate the news for the next 24-48 hours.

Fox News: Obama, like Bill Clinton and Adolf Hitler, is left-handed. ...

CNN: President Obama says it's a matter of principle -- that schools must accommodate the little Hitler children. Here are two people with opposite views we've brought on to shout at each other for the next four minutes. Gentlemen, should our tax-dollars be buying scissors for Hitler? ...

STEP FOUR: Polls are commissioned and it is dutifully reported that Americans are divided on the question of whether or not members of the minority should be treated just like members of the majority.

Our new poll shows that 52 percent of Americans oppose special rights for these deviant Hitler children. ...

STEP FIVE: As a fully established Controversial Issue, the question is officially deemed irresolvable and henceforth only discussed in terms of its potential impact on the horse-race of election-year politics.

It just goes to show again that President Obama is simply out of touch with normal people -- with regular, right-handed white voters. What this means for November is obvious ...

That's the process. This isn't a picture of democracy in action, or of the rule of law, but it's the way America operates here in 2010.
(Oh, and no, Hitler was not left-handed.)

Huck, the word of the day is;

PORN BOMBS!

No more reasonable words. They are wasted here-- some of us already agree and some of us are never going to.

Porn in word and deed, baby!
You know, the best thing about this pic is their faces. I would die for a look like that with her holding my dick instead of a vibe.

Oh shit, did I just say that out loud? :cattail:

I think Barack Obama is a one-term President.
