Literotica offers stories in many different languages but the vast majority is still in English.

The actual number of stories in the top category 'Erotic couplings' for example is:

30,913 English (Erotic couplings) stories
..1,298 German (Erotische Verbindungen) stories
.....107 Other languages stories
.....100 Dutch (Erotische Koppels) stories
......71 French (Accouplements Érotiques) stories
......60 Spanish (Parejas Eróticas) stories
......22 Italian (Agganciamenti erotici) stories
.......9 Portugese (Casais Eróticos) stories
.......9 Romanian (Cuplari Erotice) stories

I am convinced that a lot of these stories are suitable for translation and that many authors would feel honored, if their story would trigger a translation mentioning them as original source.

I think we should encourage authors to open their stories expressly for translation by adding an endnote like 'Translations of this story into different languages are welcome'.

To make a lot of translations come true
maybe we need a meeting point for authors and translators.

Seeking fantasies of control

I'm a native German interested in dominance/submission stories and fantasies of control, seeking authors who would like to see their English story translated into German.

If you find your story suitable for translation, please pm me.

Our stories can already be translated into foreign languages. Sometimes I am looking for stolen stories and I run across something of mine that has been translated into German or other language. I have never given specific permission for this to be done, but I have no objection, and I don't think my permission is even needed.

Yes, the author's permission is needed. Translation rights are included in the bundle of author-held rights until/unless they are assigned to someone else by the author.

But I would think that anyone who wanted to translate a story here could just contact the author directly.

I had such a request to permit Literotica-posted story translations into German for a German site, which I gave selectively. And the stories were just run on the site in English (with readers complaining they hadn't been translated into German--which was hardly my fault). After a while I cut them off.

Ah, sorry. My bad. What I meant was that some of my stories have been translated into German and Romanian and maybe some other languages, and appear in the foreign language part of Lit. Some other person pirating them and posting them in another language would be no different than someone pirating them and posting them in english on a website. :(

Translation welcome note

the author's permission is needed (for translation)
Indeed ...

... but most authors would like to give their consent I assume:
... (My) stories can already be translated into foreign languages. ... I have no objection ...

Nevertheless it's not just asking. The problem is that many authors of older stories don't visit Literotica anymore. Probably they would grant translation permission, but you can't reach them.

The problem occured to me. Sent a pm to the author and in the meantime finished the translation already, but don't get answer, because the author didn't login to Literotica for long time.
-----

For that reason my suggestion: Each author (not objecting translations) in advance should
  • please add the notice 'Translations are welcome' to the end of your stories.

The same could be done for all stories by a note in the 'Biography' part of one's own member profile.

Even better Literotica should add a 'Translation welcome' by default option to its submission page.

I used to cooperate with a couple on a German Yahoo Adult Club.

They wrote in English and I edited their work. They tried translating some of my stories into German but found that the German-speaking Club members preferred reading my English.

I would allow any of my stuff to be translated, but no one's asked.

I've been using a free online translation site for a few words and phrases for a kids book I'm working on, but I don't know how well it would work for a whole story. I would imagine there would have to be some limits on what is free.

Hell, if you want to pay me or a plethora of translators to translate Lit submissions, that's TONS of money to be made and I'm all over money to be made. :D Portuguese, Spanish or German to English - how much are you paying?

Thanks for being the first of (hopefully) a large number of 'Translation welcome' authors.

You published in the 'Novel and Novellas' and in the 'Erotic Couplings' category.

Maybe some forum member is interested to translate that kind of English story?

Until now no software is in the position to translate without producing two to three heavy errors per sentence. So automatic translation can give a first clue on the possible meaning but doesn't produce readable results.

Even more important. A good story is more than a bunch of sentences, it's a composition creating specific feelings and translating the story means recreating similar feelings within the context of another language and maybe even another cultural background.

Thus translating an erotic story needs an experienced translator/interpreter with writing praxis in the specific erotic category.

That's why I don't feel in the position to translate categories like 'Novellas' or 'Erotic Couplings'.

I'm in control fantasies and want to try to produce translations able to touch native Germans.

I would be proud if I should reach this target. If I don't I will throw my translation away and suggest to read the original in English, even if English can't touch most Germans as deep a their native language.
