It occurred to me that I've always wanted the monster/vampire/phantom/demon to win the battle and get the girl. I've never rooted for the "hero" as it were. I think it comes down to the chase, capture, seduction and finally surrender. Unfortunately, just at the best part, the blasted hero shows up and ruins the whole thing. Anyone else root for bad guys?

Also, who is your favorite "bad" guy? I'm picking the Phantom... with the Creature from the Black Lagoon a close second (it's the gills).

I rarely root for the bad guys. Mostly because 'bad guys' in most of the movies/TV/media etc I've seen are truly BAD guys. Like EVIL, and don't deserve to get the girl.

I like good guys. Knights in shining armor. Guys who do the right thing even against insurmountable odds! In video games with morality choices, I always play 100% good/pure (Aka Fable, Mass Effect, etc.) people even if I don't end up getting as much power/money whatever. It makes me feel good even in that make-believe world to do good things and help people.

I'm such a hopeless romantic.

Hey now, bad and moral are relative to the situation and it's very rarely black and white. Afterall, 95% of the people I've met would say tying a woman up and beating her naked cunt with a hairbrush is always wrong even if she literally asked for it. ;) If you'd ever tried being "bad" in some of those games, you'd notice that you'll uncover quite a few bad things by breaking the rules yourself. So, is it good or bad to break into a serial killer's house and murder them? Is it good or bad to steal stolen things from thieves? Is it good or bad to kill an assassin that's killing other assassins?

I've tried being bad and I don't like it! People end up suffering. Like in Fable II, if you were bad as a kid, as an adult the town you grew up in turns into a ghetto full of criminals rather than happy prosperous people.

That makes me sad. I just can't do it. I know they're not real people, but I get emotionally invested in my video games. :)

Now, when it comes to killing assasins, and stealing from theives...that's easy. I'm what DnD nerds call "Lawful Good", so I'll kill a bitch if they're a bad person, and not lose any sleep at night. Me killing bad people means they can't do ANYTHING bad ever again. :D

Fable might be a bad example. In some games, like True Crime, you have to follow proper procedure. Even if you know someone's armed and dangerous, you have to approach them properly, pat them down, and all that or you get bad cop points. I just pop a cap in their ass rather than risking them pulling a machine gun on me. It's often more a case of risk of getting blown away vs using potentially excessive force. :D Oblivion is another good example. Sure, stealing, burglary, and murdering people are against the law, but there are good reasons to do it, anyway, despite getting you in trouble with the guards.

I guess my original idea for this post wasn't necessarily a good vs. evil thought. Though that's always a great topic.

I was thinking more along the lines that there is something thrilling about the "villian's" pursuit. Hasn't anyone every wanted Christine to pick the Phantom over the insipid Raoul? Okay, being a homicidal maniac would be a big negative... but I can't believe I'm the only one who would like to see the heorine surrender to the dark side! :D

Oh, I like the whole dark side thing. I just think being a homocidal maniac is a little too dark. :p

I love the damsel in distress thing, it is hot. And agree on the creature from the black lagoon. King kong always gets my empathy, hes just misunderstood. All he wants is the girl, and just when you think shes getting comfortable with him, the hero pops in, she betrays him and screams, and all hell breaks loose.

Jabba the Hutt, he totally oneuped the good guys, got his slave fair and square, and he's got more style then the bathrobe, cowboy, nun clothes wearing emos.

Or stuff like journey to the center of the world, in which the chick gets kidnapped about every 5 minutes. It's like, they are trying so hard, let them have some pussy already.

Basically any stop motion monsters.

Or even those olden 50s films, like hitchcock in which the woman is always docile. No real bad guy for them to go too, but you know they need a good fucking.

There are others, just can't think of them right now.

 Those are the ones that get chased, captured, seduced and eventually surrender.

I always go for the bad guys. As a child my favorite characters were bad guys (LOVE Cruella and Ursula). I read Phantom as an early teen and had several sweaty phantasies around the Phantom and read Bram Strokers Dracula when i was 12 and had the hots for Dracula. LOL The guys who set off my shitometer are usually the ones in ripped jeans, tattoos around their biceps, drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette. Why? No idea, that's just what rings my bell.

A good example. K's a huge SG1 fan. The guy who places dr. daniel jackson - totally doesn't do anything for me. But that actor guest starred as a psychopath in burn notice, and . . . wow. Totally hot.

I'm partial to the Byronic hero myself. He's not the bad guy, but he's not one of those goody two-shoes heroes, either. Like Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre (which is one of my favorite books). Oh, bring me a modern country boy version of him, please, oh, please!

Always had a thing for the bad guy and always wanted to see the bad guy have the upper hand..;)

Though you can learn to do and perform disabling shots in the arms and legs that make Good Cop points.

When it comes to "Who gets the girl", it's usually the hero I'll root for. But outside of that, I'm

This hurts my brain. Any real cop that specifically went for disabling shots would get so hemmed up.

I run RPG's, and that means writing characters. I usually write deeply flawed individuals, human or not. The flaws are what make them interesting. Lancelot was dead dull until he fucked the hell out of Guinevere. Galahad did no such fucking, and stayed dull, period.

In my games, there's almost always some kind of ugly in there for each character. If there isn't,t here's a reason, and it is usually because they are a victim/example waiting to happen. I'm perfectly fine with these shining white characters if they exist to get the players all wound up and then die horribly. Yay for vicarious pathos.

I tend to fall into the "hopeless romantic" category myself. On the other hand, I do feel for characters that aren't evil, they are just out of context. A classic example would be King Kong. Monster, yes. Evil? No.

Aww, a kitty after my own heart.

Sylar from Heroes. Um, yum. I'm not sure if he falls in the "misunderstood" category, but he did have a small issue with needing to kill people. I bet he could make it hurt good, though.

Jareth from Labyrinth is a good second place runner. Though Hannibal Lecter has the refined menace thing working for him.

My favorite bad guys/antiheroes/dark guys!

Dracula from the film Bram Stoker's Dracula. Sesshomaru from the manga/anime InuYasha. Vegeta from the manga/anime Dragon Ball Z. The Phantom from the musical film The Phantom of the Opera. Hades from Disney's Hercules (a very bad representation of Hades, but he was funny). Hades, the actual ancient Greek god (he kidnapped Persephone and made her his queen). Hiei from the manga/anime Yu Yu Hakusho.

Yum, yum, and haven't seen that movie. (I gotta sleep.)
