Why doesn't Microsoft just admit their operating system is a malicious virus, and be done with it?

'Cos nobody write decent games software for Linux.

Oh, yeah. There's nothing quite as much fun as finally gaining the upper hand on your favorite Microsoft game when a popup message informs you:

Windows is shutting down all applications to install critical security updates. Do not turn off power until all updates are compete. Now installing update 1 of 147.
Error. Driver not found.
Error. Unrecognized directory.
Error. Authentication key is out of date.
Error. Files are locked and cannot be deleted.
Error. E70FFD088117-37846DB-0017FB11
Error. Windows Registry incompatible with currently installed OS version.
Error. You fight like a weenie anyway.

Quite.
I hate it when it calmly tells you to consult your IT department.

So, Mr Richard, what's this Security Update FOR ?
XP, Vista, 7 ?
I cannot find it on my local Microsoft thing (I use XP and it usually works).

I use Windows 7 and that's what I updated. I don't know about XP, except that I believe that they're no longer maintaining it.

i have never had that happen, ever. i have never seen windows take control, it has always asked if i want to perform the update and restart. i guess if you know what you are doing it is a breeze.

I think there was a certain amusing exaggeration there, but many of those error messages have appeared at an inconvenient moment.

I've never quite understood why they write something with all the doors open, just to make it look pretty. Didn't they learn from previous mistakes (Vista excepted; that's a bloody disaster).
