Which category for a new story?

I am about to post a new story, but I'm not sure whether to post it in Nonconsent or Erotic Encounters.

The story is about a young woman who teases a middle-aged man until he takes her by force. It's not clear until the end that she provoked him in order to fulfill a fantasy of hers. She wanted to know what it would be like to tease a man until he lost control. Although it's not clear until the end, it's entirely consensual on her part. How much say the male character had in what happened between them is a grey area I'm inclined to leave the reader to decide.

Any advice on this question would much appreciated.

As you describe it, it would be a clear nonconsent story. I suspect that you tip her desire more than you suspect, but it is the type of nonconsent/reluctant storyt he category was designed for; it's possible the Editors would send it to nonconsent no matter what your submission requests.

On the other hand, if you're concerned about your scores and relevant feedback, nonconsent can be a brutal choice of category -- it gets trolled by people who don't read anything in the category and feel anything in that category deserves a one vote.

WeirdHarold probably has better advice than I can give, particularly since he seems to know more about the voting/rating system than I do.

It seems to me that you have to ask who you're writing the story for? If it's the sort of story that the non-consensual set would get off on, it should go there. In fact, putting it elsewhere would almost put the story tag in the "spoiler" category.

Consider, for example, a story in which a man meets a woman at a beach, they exchange pleasantries, get aroused by each other, end end up having wild sex behind a sand dune. "Erotic Encounters," right? But suppose that the last line of the story is "Thanks for the fuck, Dad (or Mom, or Sis)! See you at dinner!" Should the story have gone into "Incest" instead? If you had tagged it "Incest," it would have given the plot twist away.

Perhaps one of the moderators could chime in here and let us know what the official policy is on this. I'd like to know, and I'm sure others would, too.

I'd say Non-consent/Reluctance since it's not clear that she's willing until the end.

Be prepared to be trolled though. There are people that will take your story as a personal affront. I don't think they'll even bother to read the story.

There is, as far as I know, no "official" policy, just a "rule of least squick" as guidance. The "Rule of Least Squick" is that a story should go into the category where it will offend the least number of readers, but that rule mostly applies to stories that fit in multiple categories -- For example, nonconsent incest in public view; would go in nonconsent because incest and voyeur/exhibitionist readers are morelikely to be offended by the nonconsent element than nonconsent fans would be by incest or exhibitionism.

FWIW:
Erotic Couplings is a catch-all category and the category most likely to cause the Editorial staff to choose a different category for you. That is because it is one of the largest categories and not diverting stories would make it inmanageably huge.

Many of the current selection of categories exist because someone started a campaign to get their stories out the Erotic Couplings category where fans of their type of stories could find them easier.

Ah, the old "it was only a dream" ending.

This is totally a side issue, but I like to ask people this; As far as the reader knows, it's "all his fault," until you reveal the truth that it's really her fault he's behaved so badly.

I always wonder why any particular writer chooses that way of handling the scenario. Do you have any special reason in mind?

Is there good sex happening in between? ;)
