Those Silly Usual Suspects Do It Again

USUAL SUSPECTS PISS IN THEIR PUNCH.

Lets say the election is a close one where the popular vote is tight. When all the votes are counted your candidate is behind by a few 1000 ballots but leads in the electoral college; fraud was rampant in several states, and especially bad in the states the opponent won.

The folks in Massachusetts voted for your candidate but only the electoral vote counts, so their state law gives the electoral votes to the candiate they defeated.

The way it works is that the electors can vote for whomever they want.l They are obligated to vote for their state's choice, but some of them have shirked that obligation and voted for somebody else. It's unusual but it has happened.

Just wait for the shit to fly when Massachusetts awards its electoral vote to Jeb Bush and everyone there voted for Hillary!

Here is a chart showing the relative weight in the electoral college of a voter in each state. A voter in Wyoming casts a vote that counts more than 3 times as much as a voter in California.

... and the logo on the District of Columbia's ( a/k/a The District of Confusion, a/k/a Cancer On The Potomac ) license plate reads, "Taxation Without Representation."

Thank god for the Constitution, federalism and the Electoral College. My vote is already worthless and the commissars intend to make it worth even less. No wonder I don't bother— it's a complete waste of time here in The Socialist People's Republic.

What are the large numbers written across the states? At first I thought they represented population, but they are much too small. Second, why is Wyoming so huge in this diagram? They have three electoral votes, as do SD and ND and some other states, and individuals probably have more say than voters in larger states, but the size of WY is still way out of proportion.

The numbers are how many people each electoral vote represents. In WY, each electoral vote represents 134,783 people; In CA, each electoral vote represents 410,647 people. So, WY is shown in proportion - Voters in WY are represented disproportionately compared to CA, by a factor of more than three.

Huck ...

:caning:
So, the idea of "one person, one vote" is silly?

This would have saved the country from W.

Aren't you mistaking this to be a democracy? It isn't you know and was never intended to be.

It is a REPUBLIC. YOUR INDIVIDUAL VOTE DOES NOT COUNT.

There are drawbacks to the electoral college, but it would take a Constitutional amendment to remove it. There are probably unforeseen consequences to electing a president strictly by popular vote. It might destroy the two party system and produce chaos such as in some European countries. Hitler was elected by popular vote, by the way, winning a plurality.

The shit will definitely hit the fan when Usual Suspects vote for Obama and Massachusetts hands Dick Cheney the electoral vote. But no one ever accused Usual Suspects of being smart or common-sensical.
