A shrine to those we hold dear - our pets

So, um, yeh... I dunno if this is a good idea, but inspired by the recent death of a dog very dear to me, I thought I'd try it. A place to talk to others about how much our pets mean to us, or other animals in our lives... I'm an animal buff, and all animals appeal to me..

My very first was Poe, a gray tabby that died when I was two.

Next came a rabbit with two pathetic names. One of which was Carrot (I was... 7) and the other was Furball. (again. 7 years old.) We had to give him away 'cause he kept eating my walls.

Then there was the rabbit (baby) I deemed "Curious." We found him outside of my house, just sitting there, and there was obviously something wrong with him, so we took him in. He died two days later.

Can't believe I forgot the guinea pigs. There were two, Sand and Cinnamon. Cinnamon was my brother's but when he stopped taking care of her, I took her. I had them for about a year or two, and one day when I went down to clean their cage they were dead... I still don't know how they died, as that very morning I'd heard them scurrying around.

Then came Tiger Lily. She followed me home one day after I'd been playing tennis, and stayed outside until we got a chance to take her to the vet. I don't know what happened to her. She just... didn't come home one day.

I have a cat. His name is Oreo. Though I don't always act it, he's my entire world, and being in college without him is torture. He went missing, once, for a few days, and those were honestly some of the worst days of my life. I have never been happier than when he re-appeared on our doorstep, mewing as if we'd been the ones that left.

Dax is the dog that died. She belongs to my aunt. I grew up with that dog, I shared my birthday with that dog, and I loved her as if she was my own. When the family moved out of state a few years ago, honestly, I knew I'd miss her the most. Diabetes got her, and that dog will forever be in my memory, as my own.

So... tell us (me) about animals dear to you, be they dearly departed, or the dears sitting on our laps as we type these words.

So many pets over the years.

Let's start with Muffin, who I have no clue what happened to. She was my first pet, a longhaired calico. She was a handful. She was older when we got her, I think. I had a picture of her but she decided to bite it and her saliva completely destroyed the picture.

After that, it was Precious (my Nana had his twin brother, Imp). A Seal point Siamese, but he was so pale in color that pictures always made him look Persian. Someone left our door open and he got outside. He came back twice, for a bath and a meal. Then he vanished and we never saw him again.

After that was my border collie puppy, Furrball (blame my uncle for naming him). We had to leave him behind when we moved back from Nebraska.

Next was another pair of Siamese, this time Cocoa point I believe. Tazz (now deceased) and Spunky. They lived for about four years longer than most cats do. Spunky's still alive and living with Munchkin (Originally, we thought he was a girl, so I named him Rei. We kept the name after realizing he was male....my little brother figured it out by feeling him up...poor cat) Then there was his little brother and sister, whose names I don't remember (they're mom's ex-husband's cats now) and his two older brothers, Morris and Squeaky. Squeaky was the runt of the litter. I had to personally feed him turkey for the first six weeks of his life, so he earned the nickname turkey boy. He had to be put down due to UT infection. Not sure where Morris is now. He was taken out to a farm because we moved somewhere we couldn't keep him.

Rick's dog, Copper, has become a family pet. He's an English Setter/Britanny Spaniel mix (and twice the size of both of his parents).

Finally, there's my little goober, L'zzy. Rick wanted to name her after the lead singer of Halestorm, his new favorite band. Since the only way to WRITE that is with the apostrophe, I chose the exact name. She is...currently curled up on top of a duffel bag with her head over the side of it staring at my tv as I play PSO *laughing*

We are doing current pets too..?

*looks at Megatron & Starscream*

Umm..yeah.. those two are my currents ^^"

I find it funny that they're staring at the camera as if they want to know where their treats are.

Actually when I took this photo, they were just randomly on top of the stairs like that! No treats at all!

"This past July, my family lost our cat Nicholas who was a very big part of our lives. We got him when he was only a ew months old from a family who found him in a tree with a broken tail, which caused the tip of his tail to be at a permanent nearly-ninty degree angle the rest of his life. He was only six, but he used all his nine lives in that time by living a huge life."

"Oreo reminded me of one of my favorite stories about him, though one of the scariest. Nicky loved his food...just loved his food...and one day he didn't come in for breakfast, or for lunch, and we worried. He turned up in the middle of the night in the backyard, looking around as if he wasn't sure it was the right house. We called to him, and he looked up at the sound of his name. We called again and he ran inside, and wouldn't go back out for almost a week."

"Nicky had a friend (his "wife") who was an orange stray that started coming around we named Ginger. She has a pouty face, coos like a pidgeon, and she has a very sad tail; Sad as in emotionally sad, because it goes up an inch or two, then just droops straight down, always. Nicky would always say hello to her by pouncing and chewing the back of her neck. He ate something that got him sick once, and he just lay around for the most part, barely eatting...again, making us all very afraid. Ginger came into the garage to see him and was trying to talk to him, and licking his face to cheer him up, but he didn't move too much. In the end, she stuck her neck right under his mouth, as if to say 'Nicky, please bite me like you always do, so I know you're okay'. I happened to be there to see that, and it was so sweet I nearly cried."

"Nicky had a very big life in his few years, and we still miss him every day, a whole year later."

"Eres mucho gato...You're a lot of cat."

RP, that is such a sweet story.

"Thank you. Nicky gave us a lot of cute stories. When we got him from that family, they said he was a girl named Nikita. We were all set to have 'her' spayed, and the night before going to the vet, 'she' rolled over sort of like 'Look what I've got!'. We just hadn't thought to check in those few weeks." :D

"look what I've got" that's funny.

When we get another dog, his or her name is going to be Nikki.

At least you didn't have to molest him to find out *stares at my very strange little brother, and shakes his head* I dunno what he was thinking in the first place.

That's why I have no intention of breeding :D
