“It cost thirty Euros,” the young beauty complained in her delightfully accented English as she examined it, then, without being bidden to, reached behind her back and unclasped the small clip that was all that had been restraining the two magnificent globes that were unleashed and which spilled out in a cascade of flesh...

“Will it be okay doctore?” she asked as she turned slightly to the right, exposing the side of her left breast, a breast she cupped and lifted, revealing a small scrape that ran just from the edge of her dark aureole down the side of the large, firm , upright orb...

Nude Day Present!

46,781 VIEWS, 306 VOTES, 4.67 RATING - up on LIT Saturday morning

Recent Activity last 7 days:

I hardly ever check the “Recent Activity” page. If and when I do I’m thrown into a quandary – acknowledge them or not? It also kills me to see those broken hearts.

This morning, when I was checking my contest VIEWS, VOTES and RATING (I only do it once a day at most during a contest) I then went and clicked open “Recent Activity” during the last 7 days.

78 little icons popped up. Which seemed a lot but which was obviously a result of having not one but two new stories up this week.

36 readers named me one of their FAVORITE AUTHORS in the past seven days. Which was very kind of them. Thank you!

I only had one (1) broken heart. And even though it was outnumbered 36 to 1 it still hurt. I had to fight the urge to PM him/her asking what I’d done wrong.

The Officer And The Naked Girl has 103 votes for a 4.36, 36816 views

Wild In the Wild has 20 votes for a 4.40, 12393 views.

Hope everyone's stories are doing well as we count down the final days of voting. Let me know if you need a vote to make your 25.

Voting-Patterns

I'm kind of puzzled as to why certain of my contest entries over the past years have attracted vastly more votes than others. Is it to do with category I'm wondering, or the point in the contest at which you have your story posted? My Halloween story (erotic couplings) for example was in at the start of the chase and accumulated 100s of votes. This time round I've struggled to limp past the 50 mark with a BDSM tale, which admittedly I only posted last week. The Halloween story was longer as well.

Any thoughts?

It could be as simple as the title and the tag words. The reader has to want to click on the story.

If the title is anonymous - just a name or giving no clue about the story - you could get less attention than an eye-catching title. There is a How-To about Titles by Whispersecret. How to get people to read your story

Category, length of story and all the things Og mentioned as well, even the day of the week that the story comes up is a factor.

Hmmmmmm - is there an optimal weekday for maximizing views? What's the considered Lit wisdom on that?

Gees! I only have 24 votes, now. Looks like I might be fighting somebody for the last place award, again. I'll have to dust it off and get it ready to post.:(

Fridays always seem to do the best as far as getting a large number of immediate reads is concerned.

Not too many views and even fewer votes and comments. People seem to be taking my teaser "All talk and very little action" seriously.

I try to submit to have my weekly story come up on Thursdays. I don't want to inconvenience my regular zappers too much.

I voted Babs, although I wonder if other contestant's votes even count? Good luck!

gratitude times infinity

:heart:moonlitclover just left a comment on my story and it made me feel weirdly emotional. Thank you, moonlitclover! It really meant a lot to hear/see/read your kind words.

I have 50ish votes and posted at the start of the contest. So I don't have the answer to your question. It could very well be the title. Obviously I'm all for a little defiling, but maybe the word defiled was a red flag to others. It's hard to tell. Most of my votes happened in the first two days of the contest and have been trickling in at one every other day.

When I won the valentines day contest I had under 50 votes and then afterwards I shot up over 200.

Then there's the possibility that less people read Lit stories in the summer months than in the fall.

It would be interesting to hear what Laurel has to say on the matter.

In conclusion, my answer is I don't know.

I have only been posting stories for a little over two months and this is my first contest so I have very limited understanding or knowledge. I find submitting my chapters on Tuesday gets them posted on Saturday which seems to work well getting fast readers and comments. I am happy with Holly with 4.60 from 128 votes and over 25,000 readers. Once Upon did fall flat with 3.79 from 34 votes and 5700 readers. One thing I find interesting, Holly appeared very low on the new story page practically buried but there weren't many entries yet on the contest page while Glynndah and I were next to each other second and third on the new story page in a great position but with many entries on the contest page ending up with much lower results.
You know regardless how it all comes out this has been an incredible blast - the threads have been hysterically fun for me and I have made some more new friends, so screw the results - I am a winner just from that!

I like your attitude litfan, and also your spirit of positivity and support. Nice one.

Contest stories appear to get posting priority - anytime I submit for a contest it gets posted the next day, regardless of whether I cut and paste or attach a document.

I would have thought Fox Hunt was a pretty sharp title, Mia, but maybe the category was one of those red flags you mentioned, similarly with my BDSM-categorized effort (which is much more female-empowering than the title might suggest!). Glynndah, maybe your title was just too literary and smart? You'll have to dumb down, lol.

Enjoy the final few days, everyone.

:heart:I think 50+ votes is a lot. I'm very happy that so many people read my story. I have a feeling that non-consent is a potent and common woman's fantasy. Although most of my fans seem to be men. Hmmm.

QUOTE jaymal I'm kind of puzzled as to why certain of my contest entries over the past years have attracted vastly more votes than others...any thoghts?

I started to answer your post... had even written the following before I clicked open your story page:

You don’t mention your VIEW numbers so we have no idea what percentage of viewers voted for your story.

To get a vote it takes three things:
1 – your story has to be clicked open (VIEWS)
2 – the reader has to get to the end of your story
3 – he has to click one of the stars when he gets there

1 - Why do readers click open stories? It’s a subject that’s been discussed/debated ever since I’ve been here. The consensus opinion seems to be that CATEGORY is the prime determinant. And I agree with this opinion. The only caveat to this is that certain categories produce more votes per 100 views than others. In other words a MATURE category story may deliver only one third the views as an INCEST one but each “viewer” may be three times as likely to vote. Which would make it a wash.

So you have to be aware of both category and the categories readers propensity to vote. Which, given the paucity of numbers available is very difficult.

The next most important determinant of VIEWS is the AUTHORS POPULARITY. In my case I’ve come to believe that putting scouries on a story more than doubles the VIEWS the story would have received if it had been submitted under a completely new name. I believe Mr Hear is another whose name guarantees votes.

The day the story comes out is important. I believe Friday or Saturday are best but not all concur. Read the two stories by Owlwhisper if you’d like some further insights.

TITLE may be important but I’ve come to believe it’s impossible to predict just how readers will react to your title. Click open the TOP LIST for VIEWS all time on LITEROTICA and check out the titles. Frankly I see no pattern that would help you in choosing one. I now believe that the line under the title is just as important.

And then I opened your story page. PLEASE DEAR GOD, DO NOT TELL ME THIS IS CHAPTER 2 OF A SERIES!

If it is, and after the quickest of perusals by yours truly, it appears to be, IT WOULD BE INELIGIBLE for the contest. Same characters, same location, same chair?

As if we didn’t already have enough problems with D.K.MOON, db, and andtheend.

What the heck is wrong withh you people?

Fair point - I just wondered if the regular contest readership was a bit less into the edgy stuff? I think I read that somewhere on Lit, but I could be very wrong. For summer I must try to get in early - like on the first Friday!

and here's how they're described on the BDSM list:

Daniella Bound - Why HAS Eric tied Daniella to that chair?
Submitted by Jaymal (4.77) 08/20/09

Daniella Defiled - Eric keeps her naked, but who feels more exposed?
Submitted by Jaymal (4.75) 07/07/10

Sounds like a second chapter of the same story to me!

I do agree with what Jim posted above. It's not whether you like Jim or not but his assessment makes sense.

Category is the biggest decider of votes.
Title and subject line is next.
Name recognition is also good but Some days of getting posted is better than others. Around holidays, not so good. Mid week, not as good as weekend. You may submit on one day but it might not get posted when you would like.

Of course contest stories are usually posted next day, a little control of posting day for the author.

Bottom line is write your story. Submit it and hope the readers read it. There is no sure fire answer for a lot of reads, votes and comments. I will say that incest and loving wives will get you comments but they might not be of the kind you would prefer.

So, just write your story to the best of your ability, get it edited for errors if possible and hope for the best. Just have fun!
With respect
DG Hear

I agree that the earlier the better. I also think the contest name "Nude Day" would make people be on the look out for more exhibitionist concepts. Even though I built my second story around the Nude Day concept it was pure satire which I think threw a lot of people off. I would be curious to see how stories from the exhibitionist category stand up to the rest.

Beach Surprise (Exhibishion & Voyeur) is holding strong at a 4.35 with 113 votes and 51,165 views. Overall I'm happy with this, as I've had fun here on the boards and have gained confidence in my writing ability. Good luck everyone else.
