What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Yeah, on noes because the EPA can just up and change them whenever they want in the same manner that Obama keeps accelerating CAFE Standards and ordering drilling rigs to Africa and Brazil...

It's not abut clean air, it's about establishing the State Religion of Gaia.

Nothing was changed, other than they have to conform to existing federal regulations regarding emissions.

You didn't even read the story did you?

Yes, I did.

The point is not pollution, but the effect that inconsistent government has on the economy...

You can't be this damned dense, so it must be denial.

Maybe today "With the Dow climbing near 10,000 again," Obama will be able to deem the recovery in full swing. After all, he's been saving 500,000 jobs a week for months now!

;) ;)

The inconsistency you're talking about is what is being addressed by making them conform to the same rules that everyone else does. You know, consistent enforcement, instead of letting the state decide how to enforce federal air quality regulation.

At least you're signing your posts properly.

It's going to raise the price of energy.

That's going to have an effect on a struggling economy.

We will have no cleaner air at a higher cost.

So "they" claim.. Of course they would rather not have to conform to the same rules as everyone else. it means one of two things, a cut in their profit, or a rate hike to maintain same.

But it's the government's fault for making them follow the same rules as everyone else.

I don't think your definition of "consistent" matches the one used by the rest of the world.

We won't even get into the "clear skies act"(2003) that actually softened emissions requirements. Because you're just going to whine that Bush is being blamed, as usual.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. economy shed jobs in June for the first time this year and the unemployment rate remained high, moves that will likely add to concerns that the pace of the recovery could slow in the second half.

Nonfarm payrolls fell by 125,000 last month, as 225,000 government workers that were hired for the 2010 census in recent months lost their temporary jobs, the U.S. Labor Department said Friday. Only 83,000 private-sector jobs were added last month.

In May, nonfarm payrolls had surged by 433,000, boosted by the census hiring. The May figure was revised

The unemployment rate fell to 9.5% in June, it's lowest level in almost a year. Because a bunch of folks stopped looking for a job and are bums.

Looks like the job losses were due to the census jobs wrapping up. The private sector put on 83,000 jobs which was an increase from May.

Lets see..

433,000 jobs created in May. 225,000 of those were census jobs which went away in June leaving a net creation of "real jobs" at 208,000 for May, and 83,000 private sector jobs added for June.

Leaving a positive growth for May and June of 291,000 jobs. 145,500 per month.

That doesn't sound so bad.. What were the average job creation numbers when the economy was chugging along under that previous President?

;)

Actually, the story says that there were 225,000 fewer government jobs, which almost jibes with the fact that the total number of jobs declined 125,000, while part of the loss in government jobs was offset by an 83,000 increase in private jobs. What's suspicious to me is the 83,000 number. Obama is shutting down the oil industry. Maybe it's the jobs cleaning up beaches that are fueling this recovery;)

Pretty sure Bush sliced off 1 millon or so jobs in his second term. His first term was mediocre, far below Clinton, Reagan, and Carter. Bush Sr. also had horrible job growth.

Neither had to worry about the great recession either.

Only 83,000?

*chuckle*
What was the average number of jobs created when the economy was bustling along when you were busy denying that there was a recession?

May 2007: (note: before the recession)

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that the number of workers on U.S. nonfarm payrolls, as measured by their survey of establishments, increased by a seasonally adjusted 88,000 workers in April, of which 25,000 were government jobs. On Wednesday, Automatic Data Processing gave its estimate as 64,000 private sector jobs. The ADP estimate is based on actual payroll data, not a survey, and covers twice as many individual businesses as the BLS.

The month Obama came into office (where Bush was pres for three of the weeks) the economy lost almost 800,000 jobs. Now we're putting on 83k in June?

Seems like the "real story" as you put it is the nearly 1 million jobs per month swing we just had.

How about we just discuss how Obama is doing and what he is doing to get us out of this bad economy? We got the Bush record, try to stay on topic, if thats possible.

Obama is a Muslim that hates business.

none of these numbers are reflecting those who are off the unemployment rolls ONLY because they ran out of benefits. there are more unemployed out there than what the government says.
