This might seem like a silly question, but then, so am I. :rose:

What role would Mahatma Gandhi have in a BDSM relationship?

Depends if you're talking about a relationship with the dalit, the Crown, or his wife.

It's well known that Ghandi was imperious and stubborn - this does not change, just because he decided to use nonviolent confrontations.

So Ghandi would be the Dom.

several Ghandi quotes, just because

It has always been a mystery to me how men can feel themselves honoured by the humiliation of their fellow beings.

It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.

It is my own firm belief that the strength of the soul grows in proportion as you subdue the flesh.

Man's nature is not essentially evil. Brute nature has been know to yield to the influence of love. You must never despair of human nature.

Nobody can hurt me without my permission.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment.

Service which is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served. But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.

You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind.

Most accounts I've read echo the one found here, describing Gandhi's treatment of his wife as non-violent but "dominating, if not domineering," and "sometimes harsh."

As always with great historical figures, there was a dichotomy between the public figure and the private man.

"sometimes harsh" like killing her with an infection then taking quinine he needed a little while later. It's not the final verdict on him, for me, but it's a little stronger than "MLK screwed around" in the footnotes.

I agree.

Mohandas Gandhi ("Mahatma" is an honorific) was no saint, and he knew it. That said, he did a lot of good things.

Is the guy who made the British Empire crawl out of India with its tail between its legs Dominant or submissive?

Is that what we're asking?

If Dominance has anything to do with causing others accept your will through force of character, I'm saying he fits the bill.

Ghandi didn't quite make the UK quit India alone...

There were a few hundred million Indians along with him, Moslems and Sikhs as well as Hindus of all castes. But yes, he played as crucial a role as any popular leader in modern history.
