They should have crimped the top of the pipe after they cut it off.

Some people claim (I have no idea if this is true or just a stupid rumor) that they need to draw off the gushing oil rather than cap it because of fractures around the pipe entry location -- caused by the fall. Thus, were they to put a plug in it, the oil might then run through the fractured areas and be virtually unstoppable.

The new well is within 20 feet or so.

Everything is gonna be alright. Trust me.

If they inject mud down a few thousand feet below the sea bed, why won't it just be blown out the top like the mud was when it was injected through the BOP?

The flow-rate at the bottom is the same as it is at the top. No?

Reduce the flow-rate and the injection will work.

I saw an animation showing how the relief well deal works. I had the same question as you have, initially, but it seems that drilling into the offending pipe, below the seabed a ways works very well, in terms of jamming crap down there to lessen the flow -- thereby allowing concrete to be put down the bad pipe as a permanent plug. It seems they do this particular procedure reasonably often.

But like I say: who knows, right? They tell us lots of things....

Days 62 through 68 had an air of fun and frivolity.

Days 70 and 71 were total bummers. Let's hope to bring back the 60s!

================

Funny. You're really funny.

What do you mean?

It's funny, you know.
It's a good story.

You're a funny guy.

You mean the way I talk? What?

It's just, you know. You're just funny.

You know, the way you tell the story.

Funny how? What's funny about it?

You got it all wrong.

He's a big boy. He knows
what he said. Funny, how?

Just, you know. You're funny.

Let me understand this.

Maybe I'm a little fucked up.

But I'm funny how? Funny
like a clown? I amuse you?

I'm here to fucking amuse you?

What do you mean, funny?
How am I funny?

You know, how you tell a story.

I don't know. You said it.
You said I'm funny.

How am I funny? What the
fuck is so funny about me?

Tell me what's funny.

Get the fuck out of here, Tommy.

Motherfucker! I almost had him.

You stuttering prick, you.

It looks a little slower this afternoon.

But then again, it could just be the lighting.

But they wanna parallel the gusher for 900 feet before getting closer......

Maybe that's where the suitcase nuke goes?

I've been pretty busy today and haven't given a lot of thought to the oil problem. I've been watching the Supreme Court hearings, following the Russian spy story, keeping an eye on Wall Street...

I did see those guys on the beach sweeping up oil globs with a broom and that seemed like pissing in the wind to me.
