What Amicus and other Conservatives fail to understand about job creation

LJ

Yep. The corporations wanna limit competition regardless of where they do business...

Big corporations are no friends of competition or free markets. They collude with big government and big media to make sure we all remain as poorly informed as our thread host, who seems to have unconsciously absorbed his fuzzy economic logic from "as advertised on Tee Vee." Big Corporations promote the opaque concentration of power in Washington technocrats. Easy to control. So does Obama.

Obama received major funding from BP and the very banks he bailed out. Rahm lived in a lush Washington apartment on the BP tab. They paid BP back by playing fast with drilling regulation in the gulf. Most big corporations would sell their mother's souls to have congress and a president in their pocket. To Obama we're just "bitter clingers", to BP we're the "small people." Together they conspire to keep us that way.

Eisenhower warned us about the Industrial-media complex and the industrial-political complex, but somehow we only remember the military-industrial complex part of the warning.

Weaken the taxation and regulation powers of big government, spread the power. Give us back our tax money and let 300 million individual Americans decide how to spend it instead of 300 ivy league technocrats and you damage the ability of big corporations to corrupt federal bureaucracy into protecting markets for them.

Reload and Obama's vision for America is a bad acid trip:

Hope and change? The recession could before winter if Obama worked for us instead of the entrenched oligarchies --Big Government, Big Media, Big Unions and Big Corporations.

Successive generations of American youth have been influenced by popular opinion, their parents and academia that the key to success is a college education and manual labor is for lesser beings. Where this rationale goes awry is in the proliferation of 'empty' college degrees not oriented toward a given profession or a technical expertise. Hence the ironic quip, "I have a degree in Contemporary Humanism, you want fries with your burger?"

Machinery, primarily robotics, has rendered many professions virtually obsolete in this country. Hand assembly of consumer goods, electronics, et al has become the province of countries with a plentiful supply of willing labor willing to work cheaply.

America's future lies in invention and innovation, research and development; in the realm of technical expertise and ingenuity in which we excel. There will always be a need for arts and letters, teachers and instructors, but an unfettered climate of respect for intelligence shorn of the current worship of amusement dilettantes and athletes among youth will serve us well in the long run.

This of course only applies if the successive generations of youth are well educated before they get to college to earn that "empty" degree. Government schools have a bad habit of turning out "do you want fries with your burger" students more often than not.

The cure for empty degrees is to severely limit what public colleges offer. Engineering, medicine, accounting, and agriculture oughta be it. Maybe a rigorous liberal arts diploma.

LUSTATOPIA

Maybe we need a lottery for business licenses. The winners pay the city-county-state for the license they win then sell the license to whomever needs it the most.

One of my wife's relations helped a couple of friends set up a then unusual fast food restaurant by being their dishwasher and second cook in between his studies. When they had completed their degrees, the business became very successful and the relation, helped by a small loan from his parents, became a part-owner. He had paid back the loan within a couple of months.

The fast food restaurant became a chain and the relation became the franchise manager, setting up franchise outlets all over the UK, even appearing in a TV series as an example to entrepreneurs.

He and his friends sold the chain and went their separate ways, setting up or acquiring other successful businesses. Now he has apparently retired, but is still part owner and director of several multi-million pound companies.

He considers that his degree was useful training for business but he never formally used it.

His parents, both retired Civil Servants, still wish he had had a "proper" job like his siblings who became a teacher and a doctor. The parents don't appreciate that he could buy every member of the family a couple of large houses and not notice the impact on his capital.

He expected his employees, burger-flippers or not, to have ambitions to progress within his companies. He grew his own managers - successfully.

Every company I know of places incompetents in management positions to block the ascent of talent within the company. Most of the plum positions go to friends & family of the owners.

We have tons of unemployed engineers. Medicine? Pharmaceutical research is moving overseas. Accounting? That's moving overseas, too.

Wow, you actually hit the nail on the head with this one. Everyone knows this except the laissez-faire people. Why is that?

Higher taxes and more paerwork have never done anything but limit the number of new jobs and cause the elimination of many others.
If you make it cost more for the employer to hire someone, he won't unless he's desperate!

I worked for 45 years and saw how it plays out. Its always Friends & Family or the Blockhead-Drunk who keeps the peasants in their places.

But yet every time we lower taxes the employers pocket it, lay off more people, and squeeze more work out of the ones that are left.

Fact of history.

And why is everyone still avoiding the fact that we are shipping innovation jobs overseas at an alarming rate?

The good news is the mythical "invisible hand" sometimes becomes not so mythical and drives these corrupt companies into the ground under the weight of their own inequity.

The bad news is that they are always replaced by other companies plagued by the same type of corruption that made their predecessor inefficient.

Crony capitalism... private industry style.

Fuck me sideways... I'm agreeing with you. The rapture is coming!!!

Oh dear. What happened?

Is someone out there afraid to make a fool of themselves and claim that I am wrong when I say America's innovation economy jobs are being offshored, and that this stands in direct factual contradiction to what lustatopia said?

Damn, I knew I was killing the thread when I brought that up. Worse so when I actually posted documentation.

C'mon... someone out there man-up and tell me that's bullshit. sr71plt? Amicus? Anyone?

Wouldn't you hate to have newbs come here and believe what I had to say? :D

Innovation and corruption are part of the natural process. Someone always builds a better mousetrap, and its easier to pay a politician to stomp your competition than it is to make a better mousetrap.

Yup, I killed the thread with these facts.

I guess it makes no sense to remind Amicus and Lustatopia that there is no such thing as free trade as long as jobs can move around the world, but Americans cannot.

Not really, completely true.

The software industry still needs innovators as the offshore sweatshops are really good at coding, but wholly laking in design skills or innovation.

Show me a foreign designed aircraft, other than from Europe.

There's two, I'm sure there are more.

ETA: you are an idiot.

You are as near sighted as you are dim witted.

Take the example of Toyota. They innovated the hybrid cars and other high gas mileage cars. Even without Unions, the Big Three in America stood no chance against this.

There is nothing to stop India or China from moving up the food chain just like formerly cheap labor Japan did.

You fail history. You fail economics. You fail.

Show me a foreign designed aircraft, other than from Europe.
I can show you a foreign designed spacecraft. Two, in fact.

That's two more times your silly ass just got handed to you. I argue with facts and history, you argue with silly anarchist Randroid bullshit that no country in the world is stupid enough to enact.

Randism is a fantasy. The single most rejected nutcase fantasy in the world. I mean, aside from your dreams of getting laid.

You are a dunderhead aren't you? I said aircraft not spacecraft and any spacecraft built by foreign entities are just knock off copies of US designs.

And if you love all those stateist countries so much move there, we'll be glad to get rid of your smelly old ass.
