Just one ... and actually my query has little to do with sperm or poetry, but, by all means, if you think of something post it!

I'm much more a writer than a poet and I'm looking for very specific song for my current writing endeavour. The song will only be mentioned in the title of chapter one and again as the title of the last chapter. There will be no chapters or titles in between, and for good reason. Still, the song is important, very important.

I'm looking for a song from 1976 or prior and back to 1970 at the latest. It must be a song people might have made love to at the time, but also must have a dimension of lover lost.

Any help you all can give is most appreciated. Very much so, indeed. I can't even tell you how many crappy tracks I've listened to up to now!

And I thought this was a Save the Whales thread. :p

It just so happens that I am listening to a cd from around that time (big shock, huh?), Jackson Brown's The Pretender, which is an old sentimental favorite of mine. He's a pretty good poet, is Jackson, or at least he writes a great lyric. (Denis Hale if you see this, hi lol I remember you love him, too). Check out the lyrics to The Pretender. It's not necessarily my favorite lyric on the album, but it could work for you. Hell you probably know the album well. Not Lauren. She listens to too much jazz.

(Oh maybe he's later. I'll check.)

ETA: released in 1976. Right under the wire for ya!

Oooh also released in 76 was Joni's Hegira album. Coyote is an amazing song that I think fits your theme though it's pretty specific. :D

Fool If You Think It's Over Poop! Originally '78. I thought I was on to something darn it... I can imagine sex to this.. oooh yeah. Imagine the guy was only in his 20's singin this... makes me wanna get jiggy with an older man... *looks around*...

Ok... a new search (hits of 1974) brings me this Rock Your Baby George McCrae.

Fleetwood Mac's second eponymous album came out in 1975.

Rhiannon?
Landslide?
Crystal?

According to the youtube comments, plenty of people made love to Warm Ways. Not much hint of love lost in there, though.

in 1976 I was busy in grad school and too drunk the rest of the time to be aware of what was going on!

Here's some ideas/crappy music for you to consider:
  • Eagles: Tequila Sunrise (1973): Smoothly mopey country rock that was everywhere on the radio in the seventies.
  • Faces: I'm Losing You (1971): Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood on their noisy way to being superstars. Complete with requisite vintage 70s drum solo!
  • Linda Ronstadt: You're No Good (1974): Bonus Jose Feliciano intro.
  • Neil Young: Old Man (1971); Off of Harvest, Neil's all-time best-selling album, from which he promptly retreated.
Unfortunately, there are a couple of songs that I think are both perfect in their own way, but which just miss your cutoff, both dating from 1977:
Good luck with that project, anyways.

Think Motown

1973 - Marvin Gaye with Distant Lover
1976 - Marvin Gaye with I Want You

1972 - Al Greene with Let's Stay Together
1972 - Al Greene with I'm Still In Love With You
1972 - Al Greene with Call Me

Out of your range but none the less a great 70's make out song
1978 - Exile with I Want To Kiss You All Over
Doesn't have the lone lover ending tho.

All great ideas.

Palba: Indeed, I was a bit young in '76, but my dad was already a big fan of Fleetwood Mac. I'd thought to use something of theirs, but I also thought it too close to my own experience for comfort in this specific story. Thanks for the idea, though. I loved when they garnered a Grammy ... was it the next year, '77? My parents were divorced by then and as much as my dad played that Rumours album over and over, I distinctly remember watching the award show and my mom complaining that they were all a bunch of hippies. lol - No wonder they divorced!

Tzara: Many good ideas that I'd also considered, but for specific reasons I can't use Young's Old Man because it's a girly coming-of age story and Ronstadt's 'You're No Good' simply because of the serious subject-matter I'm writing. It's not an erotic story and has more to do with violent death on the part of the story tellers than with the love the villain has for them. :) I will revisit the Eagles, though. I barely remember that song (perhaps it is just that forgettable? lol ) I will look into Faces, as I don't recall the alliance. :)

EO: ROFLOL! My kind of man!

Some Poet: Player might work. I will give a thorough listen.

Sweet Honey: Thank you! :)

I'm not stuck on 1976, but I'd already written something about 1978, so I wanted to keep away from that disco/early punk era sound. I suppose two days ago I also didn't know exactly what I was looking for. With two days writing characters and characterizations, I've also thought about the sort of song that could lead and end a story. I suppose it's the sort of song one might think is a romantic song when they hear it on the radio, but in fact has a much darker meaning or, frankly might have nothing to do with making love at all, like for example: The Police: Every Breath You Take

Thank you all for your help. I will be away for a bit this week, but ... I will be watching you... and your posts! lol  Thanks, again.

The first two things that came to mind were both from '78-'79. (Esp Styx' Babe) I'll think about some others, but I was 11 in '76 and not really in tune with song lyrics in that way yet. *g*

All The Young Dudes... Gotta love the Mott.

No idea how to start it...

'Baby, come back,'
I'll shed my disco shoes
let you kiss my toes
even love my feet.

:|

Babe was the first one that comes to mind for this request. Ironic. When this song came out, I was dating a freshmen in College, while I was senior in High School. So we would be cuddling in the afterglow of whatever we had done that evening and it was time to go home. I never had to say anything, the song would come on the radio and I knew it was time to go home. Kind of a love-hate relationship with that song. And she was beautiful and sweet and kind and I was caught up in the shit that only an eighteen year old male can generate. And that was that. Still sends me back when I hear the song.

LOL - I know you're away and won't get back to this for a bit, but he says he is going to eventually do something special, but right now he can't be too bothered with it. Hope you're having a great week away. You deserve it, Annie!

Nerk? I adore you more and more. Thanks!
