Ok, everyone else has a new thread, and I have to be like everyone else!

No, seriously, all this talk about drugs and I'm curious, who has (or had) an addiction to a legal drug. Cigarettes, caffeine, booze, prescription narcotics, etc.

Whas (or had) an addiction to a legal drug. Cigarettes, caffeine, booze, prescription narcotics, etc.

I'm ignoring the illegal drugs threads. But I can admit to being addicted to caffiene. Coffee and coke. Does chocolate count as a drug, btw? I'm also addicted to sex.

I was physically addicted to morphine briefly, a prescription written for me. I have a caffeine addiction, in the form of tea.

Does chocolate count? LOL.

I've never been addicted to anything, I think (thankfully) I'm just not wired up that way. However, there was about a two year span where I drank a coke or diet coke pretty much every single day. It was actually surprisingly hard to kick that little habit...sugar, yum, body like, more, more!!!

I considered adding endorphin highs (sex) but it's not an indigestible, inhalant drug, so I didn't. But you can click on 'other' if you want to include it.

Shoot. I should have put sugar.

Yeah, I think it's one of the most prevalent and most addictive substances out there.

ETA:I just chose "other"

I agree, actually. I have a sugar addiction that I'm trying to kick and failing miserably at. But I already voted, and can't add 'other'.

I haven't really been addicted to anything. Of course, caffine does nothing for me. Even drinking a 2 lieter of Vault, energy soda didn't do anything to hype me up. I've never had any withdrawl symptoms even when I have no caffine for days, though, so I can't really have a tolerance for it.

I've never smoked cigarettes and I'm allergic to the smoke, anyway.

I finally did drink some alcohol this year, but a couple glasses of champagne, a shot of amaretto, a magarita, and a shot of tequila, over the span of 7 days certainly didn't do anything. :D Of course, I'm not going to risk getting drunk because I have a long family history of violence.

I would say I've indulged liberally in alcohol and coffee, coffee to the point of some withdrawl, but neither of these to the point of life disrupting addiction.

I struggle with sugar/food in general.

I have had pain meds where I *know* I cannot renew the script and had to wrestle the temptation to do so - it would have been easy. If you're really sick the idea of being transported from the depressing reality of that is nothing you could fault a person for.

Oh, that's me too. I voted alchohol and coffee, but neither are a true addiction.

I do really, really love wine though. Really.

I read something in the news the other day, about how coffee in the morning doesn't make a regular drinker more alert.

The theory is, it staves off withdrawal symptoms, and brings you back up to "normal"

I only have 1 per day, maybe 2 at a stretch, and even I have noticed that feeling.

:0

I went through a stage when my wisdom teeth were coming through where I'd panic if I didn't have a box of the strongest OTC pain meds I could get in the house, just in case the pain came back.

So do I, but I don't drink enough to call it an addiction. My doctor asked me how much I drink, and I said "about two glasses a week". He told me I should aim for three!

My sisters all drink like fish though. Go figure.

I usually have a glass a night.

I voted alcohol, prescriptions, caffeine, and gum (seriously). Caffeine is probably the most serious of any of them, since I go through icky withdrawals like headaches and shaky hands without it (even just a little bit is good). I do still drink alcohol, though I have a very clear mental line drawn because I was a little too reliant on it in the past for anyone's comfort, and the same with certain prescriptions. Oddly enough, the scripts weren't narcotics, which I can't tolerate very well, but things like muscle relaxers or any of the drugs that give that whole "escape" feeling are dangerous for me.

And then there's gum. It's more of a habit than anything, but I like having something in my mouth to play around with. In the past it was my tongue ring. Now that I don't have that piercing anymore, it's gum. At least it's sugar free and almost exclusively the "good for your teeth" types.

I'm lucky if I drink once every couple of months or so. Every now and then, I'll go on a binger, but that's it. I don't drink beer, so I can't get anything cheap. Liquor is expensive!

Caffeine, on the other hand...yeahhhh. I wasn't physically addicted for a long time, just psychologically addicted. But nowadays, I get headaches if I go for longer than a day or two without it. It doesn't help me wake up or make me more alert or keep me up at night when I drink it, though. I just need it for some semblance of normal, I guess.

Oh, and I notice that my attention span is even worse than normal if I don't get my caffeine. It does have a marginal effect on my ADD, I suppose. My asthma, too.

Caffeine. In my past.

About ten years ago I had an annual visit with my doc. Part of the conversation went like this:

Yank: I'm having some trouble sleeping.

Doc: Caffeine is a common cause. How much caffeine do you get in a day?

Yank: Well, let's see. I keep an 18 ounce coffee mug at my desk and I drink and fill it roughly once per hour over a nine hour day. Generally I'll also drink a Diet Coke with my lunch and sometimes a second and third one in the evening. How's that?

Doc: That's about 40 cups of coffee per day. You might want to cut down a bit.

I'm a coffee drinker. I've gone a few days before without, but my head starts hurting from withdrawal. I love my coffee.

Heheh... Legal, eh?

Caffiene is every day. I haven't gone a day without a Mountian Dew for years, exclusing "I want Coke" days.
Prescription drugs... I've had a couple cases of needing drops for my eyes / ears, if it counts. It was an option, so I thought it did.
Over the counter (other)? Pepto bismol and ibuprofen are two common pills, though only when needed.

I'm probably addicted to caffeine and sugar but I can live with it.

:rose:

Oh, sugar, yes. Ever so often, I'll decide I need to lose weight and ban sugar, white flour, white rice, potatoes, corn, etc. After about two days, I'm homicidal.

I voted in the poll but I'm not addicted to anything, sad to say.

After two days without any sugar I have a headache that makes me want to shoot myself, and my entire family is threatening to run away to mexico if I don't eat something. It's why I would have put it if I'd thought of it
