What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

I have standing sell orders on a couple of stocks in my portfolio, in case of large intra-day spikes. A couple of my stocks shot up 8%-10% last night (the stock market is busy while I sleep due to time zone). I logged into my USAA account to see that three of my sell orders were triggered.

I made $42,821.58 while I was sleeping. I did not sell 43k in stock - I banked a 43k capital gain.

Seriously though. Obama is a socialist who wants to see the economy fail. He wants everyone to be poor and he's taking all the money away from rich people. Poor rich people... They have no way of making money now.

Yet Lit's right wing adheres to the myth that the Bush tax cuts didn't favor the rich.

Just look at the capital gains cut alone in case you're ever in doubt that the Bush tax cuts favored the rich.

Yeah, you make 43k, and I won the Powerball last night!

well for those on welfare...how can you cut his or her taxes when they didn't earn a dime?

capital gain tax cut is the worse of two evils...and cutting taxes does more good than tax increases.

instead of a tax cut why not terminate idle workers? streamline processes? oh wait, a government job is forever and when a worker makes a mistake lets bill the tax payer....in a budget shorefall why worry about expenses lets just demand a tax increase! PLEASE

big government is BAD

Market up 424.

and today was looking good...its been a couple of hours since I checked.

still, i think there are some 40% of american's on some form of government aid? and what about the % of american's earning a living (and only income) coming from entitlements?

think under obama we have more people sitting on his or her ass then ever before?

big government is BAD

Sure it is.

The military budget is one-fifth of the "big government" and more than the rest of the world combined spends on their military. A quarter of Federal tax revenue goes into supporting the monsterous operations.

Combined with Entitlement programs that's really where the majority of "big government" is at.

You wouldn't touch it so really "some big government is ok" is more accurate.

that was one thing that Clinton did, was cut the military budget. not one of our political leaders has the balls to cut entitlements

keep on dreaming of me, in ur house :) use that to keep you warm this winter :D

No they don't. Until Entitlements is addressed all discussion of the US budget is completely moot. The government operates inefficiently but even if it operated with capitalist-style efficiency it would still flounder under the heavy weight of the military and entitlements programs.

I'd like to have one of those iPads. I don't know what I'd do with it, but all of Apple's products are cool.

How many jobs did the profit generate?

Every time I see someone trying to use one of those things it looks like they are contorted in an awkward position.

It looks like it has the same relation to a regular laptop that a unicycle has to a bicycle.

Well, there's Steve Jobs, for one.

aaah-cha-cha-cha-cha-chaaaaa~!

It is a very good question, though, and job-wise, probably makes a better sunshine for the tech/programming sector rather than those people standing in line waiting for dishwashing shifts at casinos or people formerly working for Viagra pill companies. Also, it's just the start of their upswing after treading water last year. Being that this is a economic thread that debunks the predicted inevitable apocalypse due to Obama and his Satanic cohorts, it's very good news that a major American computer company is trending up during a recession with media-centric tech, wouldn't ya thunk?

The best news would be that jobs are being created, even GM claims a profit when they still owe the USA billions of dollars.

I think it is clear the middleclass is being replaced by the underclass, and guess who benefits from an underclass? Those who want the federal government to do everything so the elite can really run the country from the top, the left, and a cheaper labor pool so corporate management and shareholders can make bigger profits, the right. So does anyone in Washington want things to get better, no, they just want to blame the otherside. The crappy waterdowned forced down your throat not really solve any of the underlying healthcare bill is a perfect example.

don't worry Ulaven_Demorte, it ain't over yet. the rich man is still playing his games. imaginary numbers. that's all it is.

Plenty of US companies are hiring. In India.

The recession was just a convenient way for our companies to outsource while avoiding union and public backlash.

Jobs aren't coming back. Expect 8% unemployment to be the new normal. And yeah, welfare rolls are permanently inflated because of it.

People need to stop blaming Obama though. The same thing would have happened under McCain.
