Google Docs - Do you use it? (Data in the Clouds)

Hello everyone,

It has been so long since I have posted anything I have written. And I've written a good amount of stuff over the years. I would like to know how many authors here use google docs as their writing location. Do you use it for the ease of collaboration between your editor and you?

Do any of you not use it because of privacy worries and the possibility of a unpublished story or other written works being stolen or destroyed?/

I would like to know everyone thoughts on Google Docs and publishing your data to the "cloud".

The next post after this one that belongs to me will be and explanation as to why I've been in hiatus.

Absolutely! Googledocs is The Bomb! I don't use with a formal editor, though why I'm not sure, but I have friends check my work, collaborate (especially with Stella), etc. Great program.

Aye. Professionally even. I work for a bunch of magazines, and they have Google Docs spreadsheets for issue storyboards, article progress tracking and website scheduling.

Even secret information about sources, scoops and NDA matierial (Non Disclosude Agreement - stuff we can't publish before a certain date/time), and we're not worried about security.

I love it, and have used it as a writing platform, a way to share files, and even as backups for files I use at work and at home.

Between it and PortableApps on a flash drive, I rarely use Office anymore.

Hmmm...I've been using M$Worst like, forever and it regularly pisses me off dumping copy, freezing, locking docs, ad nauseam. I'll have to give this Google docs a try. Can you transfer existing files to it?

Dead easy. You copy and paste. The only drawback to it is that it won't hold a full-length novel in one file. You have to make a series of them. Fortunately, most of mine fit nicely into two. War and Peace would have been a challenge!

Cool...most of my stories are under 15K words anyway.

Actually there is an upload script you can use. I off to work so I can give you anything in depth, but I will after work. There is a way to upload everything you have to it.

Nope, don't use Google Docs, and I don't plan on using the"cloud". I use Open Office, and I don't use an editor.
