What To Do When Someone Favorites You?

I searched around to see if anyone had addressed this, but couldn't find a thread by this subject. So I'm posing the question...

What do you do when someone adds you or a story of yours to their favorites list? Do you send them a thank you PM? Do you add them to a list of people to notify when you put out a new story? Do you just smile and go on about your day?

I try to answer non-anonymous feedback, but I'm unsure of what to do with quiet favoriting.

I do nothing but think a private good thought. I believe if they want interaction, they will e-mail as well (which often they do). If not, they probably don't want me slobbering all over them and trying to push a further connection and/or flash my favorite thirty-six stories of mine under their noses.

That doesn't mean you can't e-mail/PM them with thanks, and there probably are story authors who do that.

A lot of people probably don't even know that authors have any way to know who has favorited them.

( Which we didn't until recently, other than by happenstance or communication from the reader )

Most of those favorites adds are probably not meant as active feedback, and a response may very well baffle them. I respond to all the comments and emails, but I just smile when I see a new favorite.

Oh, yeah, right. Some readers favorite an author or a story just to mark a "place" to come back to when they have more time to follow something that might be interesting.

I imagine they could do a double take if they got profuse thanks from someone they were on the cusp of unfavoriting again. (Of course that might embarrass them to leave the vote recorded.)

Ok. So it sounds like something between a private smile and a quick note of "thanks for the add."

I've only had two people "unfavorite" me, so I suppose they were place holding or some such. I always thought the people who favorited but didn't comment were a bit shy. And baffled may just be the reaction those people would have to an out of the blue email thanking them for doing somethng they didn't know I could see that they did.

A perplexing ponder.

The fun circumstance is when someone favorites a story and you catch it soon enough to see that they didn't bother to actually vote directly for the story. I suppose they think one obviates the other, but it doesn't, really.

Somebody favoriting a story probably doesn't mean much. I think it's usually just a way to mark it so they can come back to it, or maybe they even want to download it so they can print it or send it to somebody they think would enjoy it. I have noticed that stories of mine that are favorited are usually unfavorited within a few days.

If somebody favorites you as an author, you might want to send a note. I never have, but it would be your choice. You might get an enjoyable correspondence out of it and you might get some plot ideas.

I do answer feedback, especially emails.

I send them a note thanking them for the thought, and request that they remove me from their favorites list.

Personally, I gloat.

I petty much agree with Box. Although I never respond to favorites. I do wonder why I get unfavored? I do reply to most feedback and e-mails. However I don't usually reply to comments.

Nope

I'm not sure those who favor us know that we get to see those little hearts. So they may be surprised--and not pleasantly--by a thank-you. Let's remember that this is erotica, and some people keep what they're reading hidden from others...but not necessarily keep their e-mail hidden. You wouldn't want to "out" them accidentally.

So I would say, do not send anyone a thank-you for favoring you. Feedback, on the other hand, with an e-mail address attached, tells you that they're open to a response. If they bothered to write, then by all means, do send them a thanks.

Umm, dare I ask why you want yourself removed?

I'm wondering that myself. Maybe allowing authors to see who likes and, basically, bookmarks them isn't a good idea after all. I know that I'm leery of changing around my favorites now that I know the author will see.

I have one reader who's favorited and unfavorited me two times. That big broken heart is awful to see. :(

I feel exactly the same way. I would have been mortified before I was a writer here to get that sort of feedback.

There is a limit of the number of stories and authors you can have on your favorites list(s). I ran into to that when I first started reading stories here, I added stories to my favorites and at some point I had to start deleting old ones to favorite newer ones. It was the same with Authors.

Very good points, I totally agree with you. (on this issue) LOl

Thanks for the feedback Zeb, I didn't know that. Makes receiving the broken hearts more palable.

I'd be happy if people just read mine and left an intelligent comment from time to time. Favorite? Hell, I might be tempted to kneel at their feet and become their sex slave.

I favourite authors so I can come back for the same, or new stories. It is difficult to remember the really good ones otherwise. It is unfortunate that the number of favourites is limited.

There are few authors who really I enjoy, among a sea of authors that do not appeal. It is worth remembering the preferred ones. Saves trawling through a lot of stuff which has no real excitement for me.

I send a note to say how good they are..

haha The first time I saw someone unfavourited me, I felt like I'd just been dumped. "Was it something I said or did? I can change!"

You buy a round of drinks for everyone logged in to the AH.

Now, that sounds like a good deal! I intend to go favorite a couple of you guys the next time I plan to be logged on. Turnabout is fair play! :)

I don't like the limits either. Not sure WHY we need them limited. I enjoy a wide variety of categories and writing styles.

This gave me a chuckle. I felt the SAME WAY! Don't ya love me anymore???

You can never go wrong with bikini or lingerie pictures. Just saying.

You sir, are an incorrigible flirt. Keep up the good work.
