I see a few Russian authors here. I am impressed - the poor souls are usually ignored. I would also humbly suggest the addition of Les Miserables (Victor Hugo), The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas), Robinson Crusoe (Daniel Defoe), Paradise Lost (John Milton), La Divina Commedia ( Dante Alighieri) and Le Morte d'Arthur (Sir Thomas Malory).

For more modern titles, I recommend Beloved (Toni Morrison), Bless Me, Ultima (Rudolfo Anaya), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Ken Kesey) and Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury). I might also throw in some Kurt Vonnegut, but he's a little odd.

If you're going to go to the trouble of creating a reading list, then create one. :)

That should be WAS a little odd. I had nearly forgotten Vonnegut died a few years back. He seemed eternal...

Bella,
Thank you for your additions and I truly agree. I could have made the list that went on and on, but didn't. Would you like to join?

Perhaps after the school year. I haven't the time right now. But I want to do Virginia Woolf's Between the Acts. The others I've read and either written on or taught.

WHAT?!?! Oh, how did I miss that? I really *have* been living under a rock. :: sniffle :: I always loved his list of how to write a short story, that included "Be a Sadist." Have awful things happen to your innocent, bright-eyed characters so the reader can see what they're made of. Wonderful.

Oh dear... Yes, 2007 I think...
