A little humor in the midst of it all as the President of the United States traded barbs with the former Governor of Alaska:

"Unbelievable,"

"It's kinda like getting out there on a playground, a bunch of kids, getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not going to retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me,'" Palin said.

"No administration in America's history would, I think, ever have considered such a step that we just found out President Obama is supporting today,"

***

"I really have no response," the president said. "Because last I checked, Sarah Palin's not much of an expert on nuclear issues."

Obama added: "If the secretary of Defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are comfortable with it, I'm probably going to take my advice from them and not from Sarah Palin."

The former Alaska governor struck back at the president later Friday, mocking the "vast nuclear experience that he acquired as a community organizer, a part time Senator and a full time Campaigner…”

~~~
Of course, CNN, lectured Palin to learn how to pronounce "Nuclear" as not "Nucular"...so...given the gravitas of the situation, a Nuclear Arms Treaty, a President bickering over television long distance...who won?
:)
Oh, c'mon. Even you don't think that Palin is any kind of deep thinker. :D
Never said that, don't like the woman, never slept with her, never married her and never lusted after her...(a parody on an NCIS episode spoken by Tom Harmon, 'Gibbs')
But she has, and you know it, struck a harmonious chord with mainstream America and is and will be influential in the political spectrum for a long time to come.
And, if perchance she does become President, I will donate my time to educate her and teach her how to speak. ;)
See...and you thought there wasn't a charitable bone in me bod....:rose:
Why Palin of course. ;)
I mean when the POTUS takes time from his busy schedule to trade barbs with one of his critics, that hardly befits the dignity of the office he holds. But that Rubicon was crossed long ago when he bitched about FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, the Wall Street Journal and anyone or anything else that had the temerity to criticize or disagree with him.
And you thought Clinton was the 'Boy President'. :D
Did you even see the interview?
I'd hardly call it "trading barbs." Obama didn't need a bunch of people cheering him, either. He basically dismissed her as not even needing a reply, and Palin came off looking like some hysterical soccer mom.
Really?
Obama answered the question as if it wasn't a serious question. Why should he even dignify such nonsense with a response?
Palin is destined to become a political sideshow. Obama is President of the US, elected in a landslide, including many who voted for him out of abject revulsion at Sarah Palin and her followers. That segment of the population grows each time she opens her mouth within a foot of a microphone.
Methinks you intellectual snobs are also myopic...
Do you not watch and listen to the news? I don't care which flavor, just the news?
Think Joe the Plumber and Holly Homemaker and remember that even with the Black and Hispanic vote, the majority of Americans and voters, are working people with limited time and exposure to political niceties.
I didn't think for a New York minute, that America would elect a self announced Socialist...I was wrong and may well be wrong again.
But from my somewhat limited intercourse with the general public, Obama and his policies are hated, from top to bottom and they want him out of there post haste.
Palin is, at this point, the tip of the spear and is rending asunder even the President of the United States who deigned to respond to her, not knowing he was speaking to the American Electorate who far more understand Palin than they do Obama.
Yes, I see her on the news.
She is increasingly seen as a sideshow freak, the shrieking-harpy face of ignorant, and increasingly impotent hatred. Her loyalty is to her own pocketbook. Her husband is an economic eunuch - when the inevitable affair comes to light, will her male fans cluck about her spending so much time away from him in pursuit of her own career, as if she was Sandra Bullock or something? :cool:
If you see her as anything but a Rush wanna-be, you're delusional. You live in a Right-wing echo-chamber, not reality. Of course, in that world, a blowhard narcissist on the radio is the apex of power.
She is and should be a side show, if she hadn't caught Murdoc's eye she'd be in Wassilla mending her nets.
Wow! You are really addicted to that kool-aid. Find a twelve step program before your brain is entirely atrophied. And they say that cocaine is a powerful drug.
Trying to find a way to incorporate palindrome into my response, sighs, the anti palindrones all speak with the same tongue, who is the source of your similar soused up sewer talk?
Ole Chris Matthews on MSNBC? None of you are smart enough to do it on your own, yah gotta be plagarizing someone?
Sorry to interrupt this heated debate, but I never see you post outside the deep topics, and I just wanted to say I love your Lit name. Every time I see it I smile.
Carry on.
"Views on Sarah Palin" the CBS Poll Purports...
http://www.pollingreport.com/p.htm
http://www.blogged.com/topics/real-clear-politics-polls/
There are some other polls, which, incidentally, show a range of approval versus disapproval...pick and choose as ye may.
To my knowledge, Mrs. Palin is not running for any office, nor has she announced for any public office.
I did notice that I have to browse through five google pages concerning the Russian Nuclear Treaty before I found one that didn't begin with "Palin/Obama", tempest in a teapot perhaps....?
It is educational to note, however, that both the left and the right and every media outlet in the world, it seems, has Palin in the headlines.
That upset you folks for some reason?
Whether she ever runs for office again is a moot point to me; what is impressive is the vehemence with which the Left attacks a soccer mom, with how many, five, children?
I am not entranced with Palin, but I do find her more acceptable than Hilary Clinton or Geraldine Ferraro, former candidates for high office.
I suspect Palin will be instrumental in this fall's mid-term elections, perhaps decisive in some States. On the other hand, the grapevine has it that Obama will not be invited to campaign in many localities.
So...get your kicks while you can, kiddies; Democrats are going to take it in the shorts in November, oh, wait, they may enjoy that!~
No, quite honestly, I don't watch any news on television, as a matter of fact, I don't even own one. And 99% of the time, the radio is in the off position on the family roadster.
But she has, and you know it, struck a harmonious chord with mainstream America
Define mainstream.
She has struck a schord with a significant minority of scared, frustrated and confused people looking for something to latch on to. I hesitate to call them mainstream though. That would be to insult the American people in general.
For instance, many Americans share many parts of her general ideology, and are also critical of the peeps in charge, but still thinks she's a doofus and an embarrasment.
The answer to the title of this thread is:
The one who became President.
That is the only contest that matters.
