Problems with editing

Hello,

I´m new to literotica as writer and I have a problem with editing my stories.

When I´m writing a story, I usually do it in MS-Word since using the windows editor causes unwanted blank lines and lots of spaces I´ve never edited.
Those problems appear when copying my stuff into the literotica submission mask.

Using MS-Word, this problem is less worse but not solved in any way.
After hitting the preview button there are lots of unwanted line breaks and spaces (I´ve never put in there), that let the whole structure of the story look kinda clumsy, if you know what I mean.

In Word itself, the text looks perfect but when I copy the text into the mask, it looks like my little niece had her way with it.
All efforts to upload the .doc file failed. When hitting the upload button, the error message reads the text came in a format the literotica bots can´t handle. So it costs much more time to finaly submit it bla bla bla...

So now my question: What format or software do I have to use so the text looks as neat as in Word after hitting the preview button?

Thanks alot

Do you use indents and do you double space your Word documents? Generally what I do is I write the story in Word, single-spaced, with my paragraphs separated by blank lines rather than indents, then copy/paste into their submission window. Then I make sure that all my paragraphs are separated the way I want them to be. All my paragraphs, including my quotes, come out with a blank line between them. I've never uploaded a document here.

As I understand it (and I could be wrong) if you want indents/font style changes (such as bold, italics, etc.) you need to use HTML code throughout the text of your story, or the website won't recognize it.

Hi, Analikus, and welcome to Literotica and to the AH. I like anal too, by the way. :D

I use MS word too, and don't have much of a problem. I always have a double space between paragraphs and never indent. Just copy and paste, and it should be okay. When you preview, sometimes you may find an extra line between paragraphs, and you can either correct it or let it stand.

Kat is correct about how you set MSWord up...single space, no indents and no points before or after a paragraph (return).

The only html codes Lit let's you use are:
<i></i> italics,
<b></b> bold,
<center></center> center (obvious),
<u></u> underline

All of these can be embedded within the text in MSWord.

I believe all other html codes are unusable as the story is rejected if you including any of them.

I tried to include a font change in one of my stories and they kicked it back to me to take them out.

Oh, and don't worry about extra spaces between words as Lit will get rid of those for you.

MSWord should work fine, but the formatting you see in Word won't translate to HTML format which is limited to the ASCII/MSDOS character set.

Use the Plain Text style sheet and make sure that smart quotes are turned off.

To see what is causing the unanticipated line breaks, look in your help menu for "show all" or "show invisible" or "show non-printing characters." There may be a Paragraph symbol on your toolbar that will engage the function that shows you where tabs, spaces, manual line breaks, paragraph breaks, et al, are located in your file. FWIW, I have my copy of MSWord configured to show tab characters, paragraph breaks and manual line breaks all the time and removed the 'Show All' icon from the toolbar.

If your version of MSWord's format is not supported (eg it's outdated and no-longer supported) then save your stories in plain text (TXT) or Rich Text Format (RTF) -- You will lose any formatting in plain text format as it doesn't support italics, bold, centering, etc, but you see saved in that format should be fairly close to what your text will look like in the text-box of the submission form. Use HTML tags to implement Italics, Bold, or Underline in your text in plain text format or use RTF if you want the site admins to implement the highlighting.

You´re great folks. Thank you so much for the good advices.

Harold, you made my day. Making the non printing characters visible solved the problem. There were lots of unwanted line breaks. I wrote the story back in 2005 in the windows editor and revised it lots of times. So thats why I sometimes I made a linebreak out of nothing. It´s just awfull to work with this editor since the text just automatically fits into the window size, regardless of what size you´re choosing.

No it´s just Word for me, though I don´t know why the file format seems inapropriat, since I have the latest updates installed on Word k7.
But fuck it. I don´t give a damn since the problem is solved.

@Zeb: thank you for bringing those html codes near to me. Seems easier than I thought.
In futur I´ll make good use of them.

To you and all the others that helped a big big thanks you.
