so i live in a very repressed town, where there aren't many chances of being 'oneself', but we do have a park here that the cruisers hang out at. i don't mind the fact that they're there, but i do mind that they won't leave me the hell alone. when i got out there to walk my dog, i have headphones on, don't make eye contact, and keep to myself. this hasn't stopped them from following me, talking to me, etc. i am very creeped out by this, and feel that if i were a woman i would have the reason to call the police and report them, but since i'm a guy, a gay guy, i should just grin and bear it. i'm thinking about buying mace. what are your rules on cruising, and do you know how to take a hint?

Usually if you just tell them no enough times, they will leave you alone. If they don't get the message, tell them you will report them to the police. If that doesn't work, you have a few options:

1) Report them to the police. I hope you have time, and a cellphone.

2) Get a restraining order. This involves even more time, and money.

3) Go to court, and get a public complaint out on the park. This doesn't involve much money (usually none, depending on where you live), but a lot of time.

4) Find another place to walk your dog.

And finally, unless you are carrying a bag to dispose of your pets waste, I'd recommend you just grin and bear it.

Which is about all any woman can ever do, either.

Mostly, women figure that, if an area is unsafe for them that's just the way it goes, they won't ever have the time or resources to make a change in their own lifetime, and they find someplace else to walk their dog.

just call the police and file a complaint that there is harassment and sexual activity going on in the park. if the town is that repressed the police will make short work of the issue. you don't owe these guys anything just because you're gay yourself-- being gay does not preclude having any sense of decency.
