This pisses me off

Do you remember when you were in school and the entire class was punished because of one student's alleged infraction? The only person who considered it an infraction was the teacher. Seems it is still going on, but this time the entire school was punished.

It really upsets me to see this, and it presents another example of the influence of religion and the morale right thrusting their version of morality down our throats. To suggest that religion plays no part in forcing morality and limiting freedom is daft.

Lesbian teen sues over prom flap; back at school

I saw this earlier and thought that the school board was nuts for its decision. If nothing else they've created a situation where this girl could be in physical danger.

I was in fifth grade, our annual field trip was canceled cause some of the kids had been caught necking in the halls. That caused a lot of problems. Now this? She's probably in major trouble with her peers.

I feel bad..and angry..cause it's not right.

In the article she said she was scared to go back to school, but her father, who appears to be extremely supportive, insisted, saying she must face her teachers and classmates. I just hope she is okay, and would love to send her a note of support if I could find a source. This is exactly the type of things the homophobes and the righties always pull. Make me angry too, and I calmed down for about four hours before I posted this.

Southside Baptist Church Pastor Bobby Crenshaw said he's seen the South portrayed as "backwards" on Web sites discussing the issue, "but a lot more people here have biblically based values."
i.e. backwards

Some of the comments were interesting.

Whether or not you approve of the behavior the homosexual couple DID ruin the prom for everyone else. Making a stand is fine until innocent people are harmed and in this case that's what happened.

This young lady should step aside and withdraw her lawsuit. It would show her classmates that she cares about them and it would further her cause more then anything else she could do at this point!
Darn those suffragettes for agitating about women's rights! Darn those black folks for agitating about civil rights! Let's further their cause by shutting up!

Yeesh.

They talk themselves into their own dark chasm, and very good points my friend.

I have just read the article (in Danish) and I agree , what the fuck is that kind of bullshit. What a bunch of homophobic assholes.

everyone knows every leftist / liberal / progressive supports same sex dating at a high school prom....in fact everyone who votes DEM is completely supportive
even the Teamsters and Intl Brotherhood of Electric Workers !

Chuckle--yes, I painted many with one brush and it is not true of all. What can I say? It pisses me off.

I bet there is at least one homophobe who is pissed off and thinks the girls should have been able to go to the prom together...

Oh, wait. They wouldn't be homophobes in that case, would they!

I dont understand. In High School you could bring a guy twice your age to prom (This chick in my school did this ) but you can not bring your partner because you share the same genitalia? Something is severely wrong in our society

Hi Esperanza

I do believe the school will loose this fight they chose and it is only right that they do loose

I read the article on msn when she went back to school. It made me so sad, and I had to hold back tears. She's not hurting anyone. Not a single person. I too wish I could contact her. She needs to be able to hear the positive things people are saying and the support. Unfortunately, any way of setting that up is also going to draw in the negative. People wont resist sending negative comments and threats. She is a brave girl though.

It's the world we live in. Unfortunately, it is the only one we have, so we pick our spots and try to change it. Not an easy task.

This last summer when I went home, I felt so pressured by everything that I walked dow the aisle at church and rededicated my life to Christ. The terrible thing about it, very cowardly in fact, was that while I was doing it I knew it was only to please my parents. I knew it was a lie and I didn't believe in God. I did it anyway to conform.

Habits die hard and people change slowly. It is a product of how we are raised. So hard to remove everything when it is so jaded by our past experiences that are ingrained into us since birth.

BTW, It was freeing when the day came that I finally just said it--I'm a lesbian! I love women and pussy. It came at a cost, I miss my parents.:(

But, the benefit has been finding the love of my life, a woman who loves me dspite my warts, and getting closer to a little happiness.:rose:

Yes agreed, but the damage is done. It is impossible for some people to accept that being LGBT is not a choice, nor a sin. Thank you for the words Ford.:rose:

I still worry about retaliation against that girl by her classmates. Has anyone found an update?

Thanks, just read this and will read the post. The girl should know that others are looking and concerned.

I would like to find her if she wishes--her choice of course.

And Italian huh? That sounds yummy!

Thanks, Esperanza! :) Maybe she has a facebook or a myspace? Not sure, but if someone finds it, they should let the rest of us know...

And just to comment on what KITKAT said, right on! Exactly. Girls would bring military guys on leave, and dudes twice their age, but this girl bringing another girl is a problem? If it was my daughter, Id be flipping out right now.

If not tolerating bigotry and hatred makes me an asshole then I'm proud to say I'm an asshole.

(I'm proud to say I'm an asshole anyway, but that's beside the point)
Tell me; what bigotry and hatred do you not tolerate?
