Well if you don't enjoy it then its a bad idea. On the other hand if you enjoy not enjoying it then its a whole different story. And of course if it doesn't do any good its better still.

No worries! And I've relocated to another building on campus...presently researching activists/organizations that use art and media to combat militarism amongst youth.. :)

That's a great example but I think what my professor is looking for might be more specific to American youth (not sure yet)? But looking at militaristic societies and how one can effectively counter the propensity of youth to engage in warfare..

I would imagine that militaristic societies in America would be much different than Africa. It is my understanding that most boy-soldiers in africa have been kidnapped, are slaves, have been addicted to drugs, have had their families slaughtered and now all they have is their military unit.

Where as in the US these groups are usually driven by race and immigration on a volunteer basis and with support from their racists parents - or - groups like the Michigan Militia which are anti-government entities that want to attack against local state or federal government and brainwash their children with their terrorist ideas.

You're absolutely right, they're quite different stories. I'm researching this topic for a class that is working in tandem with a local organization here..where they bring activists from around the world to engage in these social justice topics. It hasn't been clarified which approach is wanted, I think the class is pushing for an international approach, but we'll see! Both examples you gave deal with an overarching systemic injustice and are both very relevant...I know something that piques my interest with this topic is comparing/contrasting the attitude of societies that have mandatory military service, exercises the draft, etc. Also, and more specifically American, the role of the military in recruiting high school students.

Obviously this is a bit of a complicated topic, but I appreciate your having already thought about it!
