Since it's 3/4, I thought it appropriate that I am messing around with 3/4 time signature in my groovetastic musical selections today.

If you don't know what I'm talking about ... think of 3/4 time as Lawrence Welk music (ah-one-two-three, one-two-three, ha.); 6/8 music is that, speeded up. And I'm sure some music expert will chime in and give some really technical description.... heh.

A few of my dorktastic offerings:

Tapes 'n Tapes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_wPBrqvyMw&feature=PlayList&p=382139C571ED34C3&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=2
(sort of crappy quality, but couldn't find a better one. apologies)

Mark Lanegan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TetE4uHMkk
My Seattle hometown favorite, he used to be with Screaming Trees back in the day.

I am fully expecting this thread will get buried immediately, but it will remain here forever for my 3/4 posterity. Heh.

Great.

This switches to April 4th in the chorus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46vk716HMtA

Fucking love that song and how it vacillates back and forth. Also, the Tapes 'n Tapes song above switches to April 4 (heh), too. In my band, we're not organized enough to do that, though I wish we were. We have a habit of having the martinis *before* we play.

One more:

Mason Jennings, meow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUFyL1yU8Ew
You have to get to 4:13 before the 3/4 song "Forgiveness" kicks in. "Jackson Square" is a killer song, though.

This band annoys me, but I've appreciated the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM8bTdBs-cw

(How hard the switch to 4 is often depends on whether you're keeping the tempo the same or fitting four beats where you used to have three...)

(The more you drink, the harder that gets. Heh)

Eek. A Metallica song I like? Wow. I didn't think it possible. I bow to you. I haven't listened much to Metallica because I just think the vocals and music are .... I dunno... maybe repetitive? They're great musicians, that's undeniable.

(But the more your audience drinks, the harder it gets to tell.)

(true, dat. We're strictly a hobby house band (as in... my house), and my specialty is playing bartender before the main event. There's a reason for that)

Oh, that's how it's going to be, is it?

Oh hells yes. I can't believe someone is actually posting on this esoteric thread!! heh. I fucking love this place. I find kinship among the dorktastic.

That song..... I love how the instrumentation is all clippy on that song, until the sax busts loose into sexiness. It just make me want to go in my music room and play something really exaggerated. And that's not the Elysian Perseus Porter talking. This really is a great song.

Ok, I didn't want to have to do this, but: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI8F6DbB2cE

You so busted out the big guns. Nicely done. I'm clutching my heart with tears welling in my eyes right now. I just don't know if I can top that. I'm going to have to go deep level into YouTube to find something amazing.

Has Leonard Cohen done any songs in 3/4 time signature?

I'm infatuated with him at the moment, especially this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqu3U05tkAw

Would love to find him in 3/4.

Suzanne is a fave. Anyway, sure, here's Lenny in 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrLk4vdY28Q

I've been able to naturally play drums since I was five and I couldn't read a note of music to save my life, or tell you what 3/4 4/4 time is and I dont care.

Hum a few bars.... follow me and try to keep up is what I would say on auditions.

I had one guy hand me sheet music. I lit it on fire.

real musicians don't need sheet music.
