Libya's Gaddafi urges jihad against Switzerland

""The masses of Muslims must go to all airports in the Islamic world and prevent any Swiss plane landing, to all harbours and prevent any Swiss ships docking, inspect all shops and markets to stop any Swiss goods being sold," Gaddafi said."
Does this have something to do with how they did in curling?

It is pretty asinine. The feud began when the Swiss police had the temerity to treat Gadhafi's son like a mere mortal, subject to the laws that govern other mortals. I doubt that he was ever prosecuted, because I would assume he had diplomatic immunity.

What do you expect from an idiot and crazed horses ass. Momar has been spouting bullshit for most of his life, although he has been quiet for sometime he is a crazy and wouldn't be shutup for very long.

I dont think Switzerland has a navy. Just merchant ships I believe, it's a landlocked country.

It does have a navy of patrol boats on the major lakes. Several countries adjoin Lake Geneva.

Swiss Navy
Switzerland does have a small navy of sorts. Lakes Konstanz and Leman (Geneva) form international frontiers, and their navies consist of a few patrol craft. Switzerland also has a major Rhine commercial fleet (you can see the Swiss flag flying all the way to the Netherlands), which military patrol craft in time of war. Both the navy and air force are branches of the army (like the infantry and artillery). The air force is 1st in Europe -- so good that Israel used it as their model.

Even if landlocked, Switzerland has its navy mainly to sail on the different lakes like Constance (Bodensee), Leman (or Geneva but people outside of Geneva dislike this spelling), Brienz, Thun, 4 Cantons (Vierwaldstaettersee), Zug, Neuchatel, Biel/Bienne or Morat (Murten) to name a few but they belong to private navigation companies. There's no regulation as to which flag or ensign should be flown on these ships: it appears that 2:3 ensigns are only flown on the 3 main lakes of Switzerland (Constance, Geneva and Zurich) while ships on other smaller lakes fly the 1:1 flag.
Pascal Gross, 11 July 2002

The Swiss "navy" consists of ten patrol boats on two lakes that form international borders (Constance and Leman).

Og

I assumed it was a joke, although Modern Switzerland got it's start because nobody could kick their asses, and all the other countries of Europe got together and paid them to quit kicking theirs.

Slow day in Tripoli

Gaddafi is the kind of guy that can't stand to be out of the headlines for very long. Kind of like Jay BJ, if he isn't being portrayed as a villain for a while, he just acts like one. BJ is harmless but Gaddafi can still cause international trouble and does, whenever he decides his star is fading.

Wait for it.....wait for it...

I'm really trying to not laugh. I just have this Monty Python-type thing in my head about Libyans and Swiss patrol boats on the Bodensee shouting in German, French and Italian with the Germans and Austrians shouting and waving from their shores.

:D

This is the line on the water!!!

Are you sure??

No, wait, this is the line on the water!!

What line?

That Line!! Well, okay.....now where did it go..........

Perhaps you meant, that line....

It was here a second ago....

It's not dead....it's just pining for the fjords of Norway

(Libyan reaches for a sandbag....)Now!! This is the line on the water!!

Og

Oh, not very much of one then...

Well, as silly as Qadhafi is, you are kind of missing the point. This isn't a war against Switzerland, or rather not a military war. Hes calling for a boycott of Swiss goods and services, and for banning (civilian) Swiss airplanes and ships from coming into Muslim countries.

For those not in the know, this is in response to Switzerland's banning of minarets (which they claim "are not native architecture"). Of course since Switzerland also banned the construction of new Masjid and bans both halal AND kosher meat, I don't think anyone should be surprised.

Bunch of fucking racists, and don't think I haven't forgotten about them collaborating with the Nazis either. If the Swiss want to play those sorts of games then this should serve the buggers right.

I laugh at Qadhafi, but he is a menace to international order, thankfully he's quiet most of the time.

I think as long as he stays in Libya he can say or do anything he can get away with, same for the Swiss. It's their country their culture, their free to do what ever they want.

The Swiss mind their own business and Qadhafi ought to.

Who the Libyans?

I didn't see them at the games?

I guess bob sleighs are hard to run in the sand?

I think he meant Israel. There isn't much snow or ice there either, but they did send an alpine skier and a pair of ice dancers.

I think 3113 is a she, but you never know.

Nice to see the Libyans participated.

Next time we need a Iranian and a Israeli Bobsleigh team. That might be fun.

So...this is about how they did in Olympic curling.

Who the Libyans?
Dude, go back to the start. I meant the Swiss and how they did at curling--that's what I meant the first time and the second. What better reason for a jihad than disappointment in Swiss curling?

And, yes, I seem to still be a she.

Look at saudi arabia, kuwait, bahrain, etc. The swiss arent the only ones to blame, there is a lot of muslim countries that have a bunch of bullshit laws in them. One of my buddies in the air force got the shit beat out of him by the police in saudi arabia for wearing a gold cross. And yes it was a legal act by the police there.

My point being, every place has it's own wierd laws, their own way of preserving their culture. I dont judge any of them for what they do, I just wont be vacationing in any of those places.

Why not? No group of people should be allowed to get away with inhumanity, cruelty, brutality and injustice in the name of "preserving" a culture. If someone commits any kind of cruelty, atrocity or crime then they should be judged, and their arguments for why they did it should be judged as well--and if cultural preservation is used as a lame excuse to let them do what they want rather than what's right it should be called out as such.

We're either bieng lazy or cowards if we allow ourselves to avoid judging others because they pulled the "cultural preservation" card on us. Which isn't to say that it's never valid, but it certainly isn't when it's the wife-beater who wants to go on beating his wife--not preserve his culture.

Preservation of culture is a fairly common excuse for some truly dreadful things. It's one of the ways some backward countries and societies justify things like female genital mutilation and murder of widows and some other similar things.
