Professional posters on Lit

I Googled Literotica last night and 3rd entry down was a hit from Pissed if Consumer. I clicked on it because I couldn't figure out how a free site could get an entry like this.

Anyway my question centers around 3 or 4 comments about professional posters who post on forums to agitate and solicite traffic for discussion boards. Not sure why anyone would pay and this is the first time I have heard of this type of thing. Although if it is true it would explain some of the total BS responses I have gotten over the internet many many times.

Can those of you that are much more savvy than I fill me in on this?

I used to participate on a cruise forum before each cruise. Was a fun way to build anticipation for the trip & often meet people that would be on the cruise with you.

Several of the members there got invited to a special launch by Royal Caribbean & gained membership in an exclusive club & became known as Loyal Royals. They were all terribly proud & would post it in the signatures.

Then a blog came out that ratted the whole thing out. They were being compensated for being cheerleader posters for the cruiseline on the website. It caused a huge stink there for a while. People really prided themselves on the site being member driven (obviously completely ignoring all the advertising that was constantly bombarding them while using the site.)

That's the only experience I've had with it happening.

There aren't ads on this portion of the site. Many message boards have ads built right into the threads, this site doesn't. I don't think they generate any revenue from the message boards. There are some people who can't actually find the stories, the story index page which is the hub of the revenue generation. People come here to look at naked pictures even and there are no ads off to the side.
