I was wondering if any other authors on this site have had similar experiences.

I find that when I post a story that contains adultery, slut wives, swinging etc, it attracts quite a bit of negative feedback from angry readers. The comments usually rant about how the woman should get aids and die or her husband should kick her ass and throw her in the street, etc. I can understand that people have different tastes, but why do these people read stories that they know will upset them? I for one, do not like incest stories. Therefor, I don't read them. I would never seek out incest stories and then write violently hateful comments about them.

The other thing I have a hard time understanding is the level of hostility these readers seem to have. They rant as if the characters in the story had somehow wronged them in some way, treating as i they were real people and ot simply characters in a story.

I post on a number of different sites, but it seem literotica is the only one that attracts these type of readers. Have any other authors experience this? I'm trying to undertand the viwpoint of these people, but am having a hard time understanding.

That's because you wanted to post to Loving Wives where we keep the terminally deranged. Most of us here either post there with the deliberate intent of antagonizing the natives or because we haven't learned better yet. Tell your same story without having the principles married, post it in some other category and you won't get anything like that much flack.

The ones who email you and rant and rave are the ones who've finished your story and most likely have gotten off on your story. They're psychological masochists. They purposely put themselves in situations that cause them mental anguish, more or less to get off on said anguish. Many of these people have probably been cheated on or left by a significant other. Some might read stories of cheating to understand why their partner left them. All in all, they have very little self-esteem and for that they're entertaining. Diagnostically, some might even be labeled with Self-defeating Personality Disorder.

Erotica is in the eye of the beholder or someting like that....

I've written several stories and have yet to post them. Part of the reason is that I'm still editing and polishing.

The other reason is that, yes, there are some here that go ballistic if you poke them in their not very funny bone. I guess they have a narrow view of erotica. There's the erotica they accept and all the rest is #%@&**.

I've written a story about a seriously bent sexual psychopath. I wonder how it would go over. Simply hoping that the reactive types would realize it's a story, a work of fiction, isn't likely to happen. That said, I didn't write it to piss off anyone. I wrote it to see how it would play out. I just started it and kept going. Then it ended. I'm sure the amateur Freudians are going to fall all over each other telling me what my problem really is.

or it is their first time, in the first time category. Also if it's long enough try novella or novel category.

Having posted several stories in Loving Wives I have garnered many a troll and received nasty, viscous feedback from them. Have a look at the nasty comments on my story Party Favor.

Until the trolls in LW realize that none of the stories are neither true or about our own wives they will keep the onslaught of nasty, silly comments coming.

I've gotten some nasty comments in other categories as well. Some readers want revenge and do not want reconcileation under any circumstances. Be happy that you are able to raise emotions of the readers to a level that they are willing to comment negative or otherwise.

It comes with the territory.

Hi, Damon,Although you have been on Lit. for a long time, I see this is the first post on this forum. There have been scores of similar threads on this phenomenon, that of readers going ballistic over "slut wives and wimp husbands" as we refer to them. This is just what happens when you write about adultery and post it in the Loving Wives category.

Most of us are not really bothered by the nasty feedback, and even laugh about it and include some of the vicious (not viscous) comments in posts on this forum. Then we write more stories about slut wives and wimp husbands, just to bait the trolls. If it really bothers you, you might make the adultery between members of different races and submit it as Interracial, or include anal sex and submit to that category. It might make no difference, because Management determines the categories, and the stories might end up in LW anyhow.

In any event, you just need to develop a thick skin like the rest of us have. :)

There is something particularly peculiar about the majority of readers/commenters in the LW section! While the one series I posted there received by far the largest number of readers, the emails just turned me off and I never finished the series... Just as well, gave me more time to write more interesting things.

Someday, once I'm a bit more confident with my writing, I'll return there and enjoy the opportunity of "baiting" the natives...

In the mean time, find another category to post in! lol

Oh, great. I just submitted my story and it's one about adultery. I did, however, place mine in erotic couplings so maybe I won't have a similar experience.

Oh I think my skin is pretty thick by now. I am just trying to understand where these people are coming from. I would engage in dialogue with them but unfortunately they always sign their replies as "anonymous".

You are correct about the Loving Wives category. I stopped posting in that one long ago. It doesn't seem to make a difference though. I've developed a little bit of an "anti-fan" club and they seek me out no matter what category I post in. The other problem is that whoever is approving the stories often changes the category and puts it in loving wives anyways.

I have received a lot of feedback from readers wanting revenge on a cheating wife as well. I wonder if maybe they had a wife or girlfriend cheat on them in the past and its scarred them for life. :D

Its also funny, how the negative feedback usually comes from men. They seem to be angered by any story in which a female character shows any kind of sexuality. I doubt a story about a "slut husband" would attract the same scorn.

Join the club...I too have a following of trolls that one bomb all my stories. Although, without mentioning names there are probably a few here that do that just for spite.

"Slut Husbands" garner the highest praise from the trolls, as long as he fucks other peoples wives, giving them the clap, aid and a baby. Sick motherfucker trolls are.

I am curious about your short story attempts...

If you wrote about a woman cheating on her husband, especially if she is an instigator in the affair, it will go into LW. The Management puts stories where they think they belong, and they try to avoid EC because that category already has so many stories.

Best prepare to be pilloried by anons.

I don't usually post in erotic couplings. I usually put my stories in the anal category. My stories usually involve girlfriends and not wives but they still get put in LW. I'm starting to have problems with my stuff being put in categories that I don't think they belong in. For example, my latest story involved handcuffs so it was placed in the BDSM section, even though I posted it as an anal story.

Another thing I've noticed regarding negative feedback is that first person narrative stories evoke a lot of anger as well. I have alot of male readers that complain about me putting myself in the story (even if it's a true story). Have any other authors experienced this?

I'm not complaining or asking for advice. I'm just seeing if others are experienceing the same things or might be able to shed some light on these puzzling responses I've been getting.

Put a note in the bottom of the submit form or PM Laural with your complaint about putting it in the wrong category.

damonX,

I'm reading your stories for a long time. Since 'The Bet' and 'The dirtier The Better' I've became a big fan of yours. I've written and translated more than 100 porn stories (some translation are yours - I'm not sure I succeded to reach you with my message about the permission to them) in Hungarian and I experience the same problem as you. The only solution is to laugh about these 'freaks' and keep on writing about what you wanna write. This is what makes us happier, right?

Welcome to the monkey house.....some folks can't get it through their heads that this is FICTION....

I suspect a fair percentage of people who will read a story whose subject they find violently objectionable do so because they question their own beliefs. They've been on automatic all their lives, hating the topic to which you write as a matter of reflex. But they are closet fence sitters, subconsciously perhaps. They go ahead and read a story about adultery or incest or chicken boning, whatever, because they want to re-examine the roots of their disdain. And when they discover their long cherished beliefs have been shaken, they write to you, lambasting your obscene and perversive stories, consciously out of reflex, but subconsciously as an invitation for you to provide them with more persuasion.

Right you are. :) Its good to see the trolls are cross cultural.
