Most scientists work in environments that are supported by public funding. Republicans oppose this funding. It would be dumb for scientists to support the party that is most likely to defund their own work. This seems obvious.

Mass republicans work in environments supported by public funding though, and they're not leaving their party.

Not to mention Republicans don't oppose funding anything (see Bush years with increased spending each year and zero funding vetos).

it goes far beyond this...Republicans get very touchy when you call them uneducated. You can get an education in alot of ways other than academia. But not every person is capable of receiving an education through academia.
