Which do you prefer? Rope, leather cuffs, or cop-style hand cuffs? Why or why not?

I love love rope...but leather is starting to grow on me.

I've never actually had the chance to experience rope, so I reserve the right to change my mind once I do. But for now, definitely leather. It just feels so nice against my skin!

I like the verstility of rope.

Ditto. I also like the way it feels when it's really tight, when there are a whole lot of wraps, when it's the only thing holding me in the air.... mmm. Seb uses jute rope, which is a little scratchy, and I like that, too.

I've been getting into leather recently, but I don't think I would ever prefer it over rope as a bondage tool.

Rope, though I use leather, nylon, cotton, etc.

Oddly, the most commonly used things for bondage here would be a two strap and an old gi belt. They're innocuous, and don't look like bondage gear, so I can leave them out in my garage. They just look like more esoteric workout gear.

The tow strap is yellow, thick nylon with a lightly padded loop at each end. If a put a bottom on the bench in my squat rack, the strap is the perfect length to slip over one ankle, snake it behind the two uprights, and then over the other ankle. This holds her leg high up and spread, perfect for access. The gi belt can then be used to secure the upper body, wrists, etc. It doesn't look elegant, but it is expedient. In my life, that counts for a lot, as it lets me enjoy a properly secured and helpless bottom however I'd like, when I like, and without any real prep.

And, honestly, the industrial feel of the tow strap suits my aesthetics as well. It is a sharp contrast against pretty skin. I've been keeping my eye out for a similar strap to replace the gi belt.

For serious scenes though, rope all the way.

My favorite mode of restraint is impromptu use of everyday objects. Leather belt, scarf, necktie, window sheers, that type of thing.

Of the three you mention, I prefer leather cuffs. I'm not an artist, and have no patience for the rope thing.

I prefer leather cuffs or something else that's quick and easy. However, a certain someone has recently gotten heavily into intricate rope bondage. It bores the crap out of me, and my feet and back hurt when I have to stand still for long (read: over an hour) periods of time while he ties and ties and ties again. God, what happened to the man who used to love quick and dirty bondage as much as I do?

Rope and predicaments (thread, needles, clamps, surgical tubing etc)

I don't have a real preference. I just like bondage. If I can have my fun with a bound and helpless female at my disposal, I'm a happy camper.

I chose metal, because I have about three pair of those, and I'm actually certified in the use of them. Not that I'm boasting or anything, but once you're good at something, the element of surprise is always fun. Nothin' better than the expression on the face of a naughty female, once she's been quickly and professionally handcuffed. Book 'em, Danno!

Rope for the versatility (and the marks it leaves) but I'm becoming very font of this leather cuff we bought last year. The leather just looks so damn sexy on her skin.

I would have said metal, but the last time I did half the forum jumped on it and beat me until I was convinced they were unsafe. So leather it is.

Mmm, I think it's cos the metal can be too unforgiving.

Take some lessons from DVS, then you can play till you heart's content? :p

Metal doesn't have to be dangerous, but those police cuffs can be if you're not carefu or good with 'em. I envy DVS that skill. I've had the pleasure of using these curved iron cuffs from Fetters and they were *very* comfortable.

Rope

Very quick.

When someone is not expecting to be restrained it is especially effective.

Unforgiving? I think it's more the people don't know what to look for in metal handcuffs than it being the cuffs themselves.

Sure, if you want to lay on your back, metal isn't the way to go, because you can cut circulation off. But, you can tie someone's hands too tightly with rope and do the same thing. It's just easier with metal.

Metal handcuffs should be plated with a good amount of chrome or paint, so they don't rust. they should also be buffed on all edges that touch the body. I've seen cuffs that look good, but when you run your fingers along the inside edges of the cuff, the edge is almost sharp. That's going to limit the time someone can wear them with comfort.

Good cuffs should have some weight to them, too. That means they are made of good quality metal and not pot metal. Good cuffs could actually be used as a weapon, if ever the need was there. Hold one cuff in your hand and swing the other cuff with some heft against the intruder's head and face. That should get their attention. It might not stop them, but it will slow them down.

For safety, always get double locking cuffs. They're more expensive, but once they're double locked, they won't close up on your wrists and get tighter. You first adjust the cuff to the wrist, then on the top of the key is a small pin like area that you push into a hole on the edge of each cuff. That locks the cuff where it is, so no matter how you move around, or push on them, they won't tighten up.

The double locking cuff unlocks the same way as a single locking cuff does so there's no extra time in getting out of them by looking for that little hole in the edge to release. It's only when you lock them, do you need that step.

it's only common sense. Feel for sharp edges where they touch your wrists and good quality coating so they won't rust. Then, always get the double locking cuffs. If you feel like you're going to lose a key, put one somewhere that you will always know where it is. I have mine on my keyring with my car keys and house keys. But where you decide that would be up to you.

I don't know of any quality cuffs that have special keys but there could be one or two out there, and all quality cuffs come with two keys. But, mostly, you would be able to go to any police department and get yourself out of the cuffs, if you lose both keys.

Embarrassing to go to the police to get your wife unlocked? Maybe, but you'd have a great story to tell your kinky friends, when you get together. And you just might give the cops a little thrill, too.

I think police cuffs are just too shiny for my liking.

My fantasies that include metal always tend towards a rather dingy, shabby, almost medieval feel to them :D

But, very sound advice to take on board, should I decide to give them a whirl in the near future. Which I probably will.

Thanks DVS :)

Oooh I like that too.

I love the intensity of his expressions, and that little tip of tongue poking out the corner of his mouth that just tells you that's a man concentrating on the task at hand!

Heh

if we're talking cuffs, then metal - i like the bruises

for "playtime bondage" then whatever is fine, but i love the contrast of soft things being used for hard purposes ie silk rope or strapping, cling wrap, bandages.

ultimately i prefer the simplest of verbal commands - stay here - don't move. works the best for me.
