Today I was informed that back in one of the corners of the pharaoh Hatshepsut's tomb where the public isn't allowed, there is a graffito painted on the wall. It seems to be in response to an alleged rumor that the pharaoh was having a long-term affair with her chief advisor, Senenmut. It depicts her bent over, wearing the crown of the upper and lower kingdoms and the official pharaonic beard, being thoroughly fucked by the advisor. I don't know what his official title was but Grand Vizier would communicate to the readers, wouldn't it?

During that time she seems to have been rather kinky and held "The Festival of Mut" which was nothing but a Royal Orge.

Is the rumor of Hapsetshut and Senenmut true? It's possible. The Royals seem to be fucking each other regularly. Senenmut seems to have been her cousin so it very will could be accurate.

Do I believe there is a drawing of Hapsetshut being boinked by Senemut? Not really for several of reasons. First, the tomb would have been closely scrutenized by the priests. If such a drawing had been there, it would have been removed before the Queen was buried.

Secondly, the religion at the time would not have allowed an artist to paint such a picture. The artists working on a Royal tomb would have to have been "true believers" and closely watched. This would be akin to a painting of Jesus Christ being butt fucked by Peter. You ever seen anything like that?

Finally, my understanding of this myth is that the painting is not in her tomb but in here Funeralry Temple which was built some years after her death. With the wide disparity between the common people and the Royals, how would a common artist even know about such an affair?

True. I helped a young lady who narrowly escaped being my daughter in law to prepare her PhD thesis (I knew DTP back then). It was half text, half illustrations (with academic provenance). You know that porn scene with the female doing the splits vertically, stood on one leg? Well her thesis included an Egyptian illustration of exactly that.

NO! Her topic was primarily about head hair (I think the significance was that the bloke was hanging onto the hair on her head, so this lass at least hadn't a shaved head and a wig - which would have come off, if you'll excuse the pun, in his hands).

I will take care of it. My late father was stationed in Egypt at the end of WWII and my late uncle worked in an archeology museum at the same time. I have a few artifacts from Egypt and some resources. But I am confident I can come up with what we are after.

This is the problem with your picture. It shows a couple fucking, yes. However, the "crown" (and there were five different royal crowns during the New Kingdom period) is not one of the royal crowns. (http://www.egyptologyonline.com/pharaoh's_crowns.htm) The only "crown" even similar is what is referred too as the "cap crown" that was only worn in the Old Kingdom, some 800 years before Hetsepshut. It is good you discovered the drawing was NOT in the Queen's tomb.

What I see when I look at the picture is a woman's wig. The Royal Egyptians, both men and women shaved their heads and wore styalized wigs. Picture below is Queen Ti (grandmother of Tutankahmun) in a typical wig with a sort of Ostrich Feather Crown often seen in tomb paintings and associated with Osiris.

That's why the whole thing is rumor. Nothing is documented, no one knows, it's just the kind of delicious 'celebrity' gossip that has no doubt gone on since one human became just a tad more privileged than another. But it would make a great novel for someone patient enough to research the period and write it. Might even make it onto cable TV.

Uh--no! I have a hard enough time getting them used to the fact that a large portion of the Ancient World routinely went naked. Usually, by the end of the year they're a lot more blase' about the human body than they start with in September but it takes effort. Most of them, by the time we get to the Romans, figure that if you had a choice between bathing with your friends and not bathing at all, they'd bathe with their friends. However, most of them are glad they don't have to!
