You think my brother regrets voting for Obama now?

Just wait until he has to write a check for 8000 dollars for his Cadillac insurance and his medicare gets cut. If this current plan is pushed through it could mean the end of the democrat party. I think they know it too but don't care. Even liberals are unhappy with it.

Where were the aggressive solutions of the "republic party" when they had control of the federal government?

It's easy to criticize anyone doing anything, as long as you don't have to come up with creative ideas of your own.

Boo fucking hoo. I'm assuming your brother is in the "boomer" demographic? The one that's been handed everything they want on a political platter since Regan?

I just got prescribed a med that costs me 1000 dollars a month, which Blue Cross Blue Shit is not going to cover. It might spare me some bone density issues later in life, so I don't get it. I get prednisone and ostheoperosis, because boomers can't tolerate the notion of everyone paying like 200 bucks more a year in taxes because the American public is too freaking moronic to understand the implications of the majority of personal bankruptcies due to medical issues among THE ALREADY INSURED.

1000 dollars a month on top of my existing meds, my MD visits, and everything. And the sicker I get the less I can handle talking to jackoffs all day.

Single payer. Nothing less. You bet your ass liberals are unhappy with it. The bill is a steaming turd, de nutted by blue dog scum.

Where the fuck was the tea party when Bush was running up the tab?

Yeah he's well off. But that doesn't mean he's going to enjoy writing a check for 8000 dollars. It's not like he feels like he needs to take care of you. Not just him but millions will be pissed off. Well everyone will be. This thing starts 5 years before anyone sees any benefits.

I CANNOT comprehend this attitude. How can anyone say they live in a civilised country if that country does not provide free education and free healthcare to all? Whatever happened to being proud of living in - and contributing to - a community made up of fellow countrymen?

I earn way, WAY more than the average UK income. In taxes etc I contribute more than most and more than I take out of the pot. Lucky me to be earning more than others. Lucky me to be living in a country that makes an effort to care for its poor.

No one needs to take care of me, and I absolutely resent the implication that my desire for a public health system is some kind of charitable begging. I've worked days when lesser people would curl up in a ball and cry because I like money.

Imagine this.

Writing a check for 200 dollars which allows him, me, you, and every other asshole to go to the MD and get a decent standard of care, paid for by income taxes, going back to you, the taxpayer.

Do you not understand the concept of saving money? I would LOVE to pay 1000 dollars more in taxes to get something back that private insurers have jacked up to obscene.

Remember, they're shitting their pants because a public health system is "too competitive."

Free? are you kidding me? Aren't you taxed at something like 12% of your income for it?

You are totally missing the point - I am happy (indeed, proud) to pay taxes to fund a healthcare system that is free at the point of deilvery for all. Free for me, free for a multi-millionaire, and free for a poor man who has never paid a penny in tax in his entire life.

Yes, obviously the money has to come from somewhere. It comes from taxes, which come from those who can afford to pay them.

This notion of actually getting something back for your tax dollars is too complex for the dumbed-down US mind. Remember, we like to cut taxes.

Please add up what you pay in premiums, copays, meds not covered by formulary, accident hospitalizations, whatevs. I'm not sitting on a gold mine, but I'm not broke either, well not on paper. It's actually a good deal. A considerably better deal than the one I've got and a lot of under-insured people get.

Again, if it's a raw deal or comparable to private insurance, why would the insurance companies be going apoplectic?

I am perceiving it as more like panic/indignation along the lines of "But what if I pay $10,000 a year in tax but only get back $4,000 in benefits, while the guy in the next neighbourhood pays $4,000 a year in tax but gets $10,000 in benefits!!!! That means I am paying for him!! That is wrong!! Why should I pay for HIM??"

Whereas my attitude is that I'm happy to be part of a community where we all put into the communal pot in line with what we can afford, and we all take out of the communal pot in line with what we need (over-simplied, obviously, but you get my meaning).

It's called civilization, we're still only a couple hundred odd years old. A toddler. One I love dearly, but still a toddler. People scoff at the notion of tax paying being patriotic, probably because you peeps did a number on us so early on. Fuck that. It IS patriotic, it is acknowledging that you care about the nation. Somehow paying taxes means I'm oppressed, but fighting with blue cross for the product I am already buying from them is liberating?

I'd pay 12% of my income for decent health care.

It will be rationed health care and Medicare will have huge cuts. Seniors needing hips replaced will be told to take aspirin. People on life support will be unplugged. You just can't put 30 million new people into the current system without fucking it up. Only so many doctors you know.

Hey! Careful who you're clumping there, bucko....

I have absolutely no issue paying my share of taxes and contributing toward social programs. Granted, I would prefer to do so along with everyone else, including the top 5% on the income bracket and big business, but that's another debate.

Excuse me? It isn't?

Do you ever use your private insurance?

Do you think we're NOT being rationed, unplugged, and ignored at present? You're worried about seniors and persistive vegetative states - what happens to poor people right now, do you think?

Do you talk to critically ill people from other countries online for months on end to gain perspective and insight into your own chronic disease, only to find they're getting excellent care and meds without being bankrupted?

It appears we are in a tiny minority.

You sure about that?

My dad died in September 2009, after being in intensive care in hospital for over two months. He was elderly and already infirm but the free UK healthcare system never gave up on him and he had a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio for most of his time in hospital (i.e. until the last few days, when he had two nurses, 24/7, dedicated exclusively to his care). Two years ago he had his arthritic knuckles realigned, for free, by our healthcare system. He had to wait for that - because he needed to finish caring for my elderly, infirm mum, who was recovering from having a heart-valve replaced - - for free - before he could risk taking his hands out of action.

The gun is the one being held by millions and millions of people like me, who are fed up. Done. I hope you have continued good health.

Every other first world country worth spit has this. But we can't. I say bullshit. We're Americans. We can nuke and then rebuild Japan, go to the moon, invent non-monarchical rule, but we can't offer health care to everyone.
