It is disrespectful to the heroic people of Haiti to make fun of their religion. Their religion is just as good as anybody else's religion. Had it not been for the faith they had, many more would have been killed by this terrible earthquake down there.

i confess that i don't naturally feel for strangers miles away...
it takes a conscious effort sometimes to remind myself, ''real people, real feelings'', but that's a far cry from skipping for joy at another chance to play con/dem dodgeball.

You think that the buildings in the Dominican Republic would have fallen down if the earthquake happened on their side of the island? Of course not. They have stronger buildings made up to their code and they would have done just fine. The problem is the poverty of Haiti meant that they could not afford to build fancy re-enforced structures. They are the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Had the politics of the Dominican Republic been such that they would have helped out their neighbor, instead of treating their neighbor like it had the plague, many lives would have been saved. But the Dominican Republic is stingy and mean and enjoy anything bad that happens to their neighbor. It makes them feel superior. It is so stupid because it is like a guy in a row boat with another guy in a row boat and there is a leak but the first guy won't bale out the water because he says that the leak is on the other guy's side of the row boat.

That's the thing, though, Chippy. The people here that are doing so are so fucking sure of this never, ever happening to them (or any other natural, financial or physical malady-centered disaster that strips their humanity from their lives enough to make them dependent solely on the compassion of others) that their comfortable, secure, internet-powered entitlement gives them the right to make light of it.

It was a magnitude 7 quake.. I doubt even the sturdiest of buildings would withstand that.

Think about the widespread devastation in California (san Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Oakland) during the World Series quake of 1989. Double decker freeway collapses.. Homes and businesses collapsed.. etc.
