For those knowledgeable about the life and times of Sacher-Masoch, I need a bit of fact-checking help if you can spare a moment.

1. What is the correct year of his birth? In Coldness and Cruelty, author Gilles Deluze says he was born in 1835. Almost every website source I've encountered claims he was born in 1936. Can someone confirm (preferably from another book source) which year is most accurate.

2. Deluze also says Masoch was born in Lemberg, Galicia. I realize that he is likely referencing the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Austrian-Hungarian empire for more symbolic depth, but (with this in mind) can anyone tell me if is referencing Lemberg as a region or a city in the Galicia in that region and of that time.

(Deluze says that most of his information came by way of books written by Masoch's secretary Schlichtegroll and Masoch's first wife, Wanda (Aurore Rümelin), which I have no access to at the current time. I have seen the Wiki pages for Masoch and all of these sources, but I have no faith in Wikipedia as a valid research tool... just sayin' :) )

In advance, thanks so much.

most sources say 1836, including the title of one bio!

lemberg 1772-1918, Galicia, in Austro Hungarian empire; now in Ukraine [named, Lviv]

(galicia is now incorporated within poland and ukraine)

Thank you, Pure. As mentioned, I am looking for book references (as in books you can quote because they are on your shelf). I admired Gilles Deluze greatly. However, if at least 2 book references negate his reference to 1835, then I will concede and go with the flow.

Don't know if this is of any help (don't have any books at hand), but Astro Databank has his day and time of birth listed as 27 January 1836 at 08:10 am. I don't know their source, but I imagine they're motivated to get it right.

Thank you. I will take this into consideration. V.

Thanks again to all who answered. I know I ask a lot, but I appreciate all you give.:kiss:

Hmmmm, Aquarius. You know, that date's coming up. As this is a porn site, maybe we should throw him a party? Or at least throw it for him down in BDSM....

Think I'll head on over there and suggest it. :D

the book reference i supplied has the date in the title, for heaven's sakes; one may also see the cover at amazon.

Yes, but ... as I stated, I came across many such online book references. I want cold hard quotes (I ask for book references because contained 'within' the book is likely a quote from someone who actually knew the guy, and I am looking for that, which is why I suggested I was not interested in Internet history). A publishers note about the birth and death of an individual is not what I am looking for. I do appreciate your posting, Pure. It's just not what I was looking for, and there is nothing wrong with that. I thank you again.

I say we have the party here!
Done! Will someone please remind me a day or so before hand so I can invite over all the BDSM folk? I'd be happy to put up a Happy B-Day Leo! banner in the dungeon and bake up a cake if a few other people are willing to bring cupcakes and punch.

You may want to consider a Devil's Food or Pineapple Upsidedown cake for the party...and toss some nipple clamps and clit/foreskin rings in the batter for party favors. :D

Oh, nice ideas on the party favors! I suppose I don't have to worry about games--the BDSM folk seem to know a lot of those....

Has anyone ever seen a cake with a St. Andrew's cross on top? That would be interesting. Scary, perhaps, but interesting.

BDSM people eat cupcakes for lunch and bring punch? A bit typical, IMO.
