"Because it's there."

indeed......

but, I'd bet this is going to cost more than it brings in......Now, the Mat-Su Borough may have to maintain extra folk on staff........

It's a damn fool idea from start to finish. It sounds like legislation proposed by some O'Relly acolyte. It makes no sense at all.

I love this thread! Leaving some lipstick-mark kisses in it for he who peregrinates.

That's a sizable chunk of territory. Yeah, KS is of the opinion that everyone should be charged for rescue.

Then, people will expect it. And expect a 'standard'. And lawyers will get involved. And administrators. DAMN, it looks like more jobs created or saved!

You're just the sweetest thing.

Exactly. People will expect to be able to whistle up a helicopter like they can in Chamonix.

Lmao. It's extremely common for EMT's on ambulances to refer to themselves as taxi drivers. This is precisely what SAR folks are trying to avoid.

And that's what's happening in the Mat-Su Borough. Most rescues are nothing but taxi service out to the road. They aren't normally mountain rescues. They're "I got my Dodge stuck on the other side of metal creek" type rescues. :eyeroll:

Instead of packing an extra few layers and a bivy, dipshits pack a cell phone in the mountains above town. You can't get lost. Downhill is civilization.

Yup. Exactly why the fish cops in NH hated cell phones. "Hi, I can't find the right trail. Can you send someone to guide me out?" That's a real call, btw.

Snowbear, it is 4 - 6 ft swell here. The OT is around the 50s. Even with the hood and booties and full suit does not combat that cold.

What's the earliest in the year that you can go take a dip in the ocean with your board without turning into a Veebsickle?

LOL....."NO!"

but then the lawyers make a bundle!

I play in some cold water, but I do hate swimming in the drysuit. It's prolly too bulky for surfing.
