Nothing but jazz...

texasace -- i'm glad that you enjoyed ledisi. she's one of those humble artists...a lot of people aren't familiar with her, and she's not recognized for her gift like she should be but she's fine with that. she's at peace doing a concert in a park for 200 people. thank you for sharing the dinah washington piece, it was great.

i think i read that you were a trumpet man and thought i would leave some chris botti with you to enjoy. i have his a thousand kisses deep cd -- it's a great cd to add to one's collection.

indian summer : from the cd titled, a thousand kisses deep

good morning heartache feat. jill scott : from the cd titled, to love again -- i will always love billie holiday's version

the very thought of you feat. paula cole : from the cd titled, italia -- this song just screams romantic.

You amaze me....

Chris Botti if prob the finest instrumental musician to appear in the last 10 years... As an old trumpet play I can truly appreciate his talent. In a recent interview he talked about Chet Baker as one of his respected inspirations.

Autumn Leaves - Chet Baker & Paul Desmond Together

I had the privilege of being the MC for a show that Chet did for the 3rd Air Force when I was stationed in London.

bumping...just because I love jazz. Will post later on my favs. Been fortunate enough to have a musician for a father so grew up seeing Basie, Buddy Rich, Brubeck, etc.

My 15 year old and I are big James Moody fans. Went to see him a few years ago at the Blue Note in NYC. He spent 15 min talking to her (she was 12 at the time) and told her to be a better sax player, take up the clarient. Good advice, but cost us another instrument! Now we have a alto, tenor, clarient, flute and two guitars in the house....and she plays bass clarient in the band ;)

That is sooooooo cool....

But how can we even talk about jazz without adding...

Dave and Paul contributed so much to the jazz scene... Their music will always be keystone...

I was watching the Kennedy Center Honors this evening and rightfully so, Dave Brubeck was being honored. The man is brilliant, I can't believe I let him slip my mind. Enjoy.

Take Five is one of my favs! But I could say that about one hundred other standards...:D Saw Brubeck in 1970 when I was 12.

Another person I like...and a great guy is Steve Turre. We took my daughter to see him at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago when she was about 10. Not only did she get the chance to meet him, he spent about 10 min talking to her about her sax and what she was learning. And since it is a small club, when he played shell he came off the stage and played in front of her. Nice guy and wonderful musician.

Oh, just another thing. If anyone gets to Chicago, especially with kids you MUST visit Jazz Showcase on a Sunday. The 4:00 matinee is part of Joe's "Save the Kids" mission from listening to what he calls C(Rap). The Showcase is a smoke free club and has been for years. Kids 12 and under get in free with an paid adult. We go and drink sodas and listen to music. We took my daughter starting at age 2 and she has seen quite a few great shows. Here is the link

That is so cool... my 3 daughters, now in their 30's talk constantly about growing up with jazz. The middle daughter was a flutist, and still jokes about how hard I pushed her to learn "Swinging Shepherds Blues"...

I still luv jazz flute...

Flatterer... Jeez, who doesn't want to talk about thier own experiences. I was fortunate to grow up with a musician for a father. He played in a salsa orchestra for 40 years in Chicago. He passed away in 1988 and I still have his piano. Speaking of which...I know it is a bit of a crossover, but since it is the holidays and I am thinking of him, here is a little salsa to heat up your New Years.

That was GREAT salsa... as a trumpet man I never played much salsa...
but I really do enjoy it, and the dancing girls compliment the music...
definitely easy on the eyes while the ears are getting a treat.

I'll bet you and your dad both dug this giant...
