Ok so it's Christmas Time and we're going to be getting presents.

So what are the best and worst presents you have ever received?

For me they are as follows.

Worst, a pair of fuzzy socks. They were Pink, fuzzy and had seperate toes.

Best, the watch I wear now. A Fossil Titanium from my wife on our second year after we had moved to Florida. (A bit of a story there.)

How's about you?

Cat

Best was a pair of axle stands.

Now my wife, but not back then, she took lots of flack, but she knew what I wanted and despite all mocking, that's what she bought me.

I thanked her then and would do so now; she's wonderful!

Worst:

When I was 13 or so, I thought I was being very clever and careful when I eased open my Chrsitmas present and saw I was getting the microsope I wanted so much. Come Christmas Morning I was absolutely positive I knew what was in that particular present and was utterly devestated when I dscovered the common red brick that had replaced the microscope and accessories!

Worst: One year my comedian ex-brother-in-law gave me a live duck. My reaction was so livid that the family still doesn't talk about it . . .

One great present was a circular saw my father gave me. My daughter had been born just before Christmas that year, and everyone gave me mommy things and baby things. My dad remembered that I had other interests.

Bad ones; One sister in law became a binge shopper for a while. the gifts were her attempt to rid herself of the stuff she'd bought-- no rhyme or reason to them.

Childhood

Best: A secondhand clockwork toy train set (Hornby O gauge which was similar to US Lionel) that came in a large trunk and took up most of the ground floor of our house.

Worst: A detailed model of a Spanish galleon made mainly of cork. It lasted about half an hour before the cat destroyed it. It wasn't a toy. It was an ornament and I really wanted a basic boat I could sail.

Adult

Best: One of my uncles gave me his old car to work on. Within days I had it roadworthy and I used it for three years.

Worst: A handmade sweater that was too small to wear but had been exquisitely made by an aunt. I couldn't use it. I daren't get rid of it. Forty years on, my wife wears it and loves it.

I've never had any bad presents, I'm always grateful for what I get. I guess not having extended family prevents those problems, not to say it would be bother me if its not what I wanted nor what I expected (not that I'm not phased anyway)

I got the absolute best present anyone coud ever want this year. I got a Grandson for Christmas. He's six pounds five ounces of bouncing baby boy. He's very healthy and Mama and baby Ryder are doing great! Happy Holidays all!

Congrats! :rose:

I have gotten so many that could qualify for the worst over the years . . .

I generally don't like giving or receiving presents. I buy everything I want, so if someone gives me something it's probably something I don't want. Of things I do want that I don't have, no one can afford to get them for me and it would be a ridiculously expensive gift for anyone to attempt.

That said:

Best: My first guitar was a Xmas present. I was fifteen and my mom and dad took me to the music store on December 1 so I could pick out my own guitar. They let me have it right then, too, because they realized it would have been cruel to make me wait until Xmas day. That gift changed my life.

Worst: I have a huge family. We have to rent a building for Xmas to get us all together. With my grandmother, her five sons, their wives, grandkids, their husbands and wives, great grandkids, and now this year great-great grandkids, there is about 80 of us. Because there are so many of us we used to do a gift exchange where you draw a name of the one person you buy a gift for. In the late 70's my aunt and uncle were struggling badly when Chrysler was leaving people laid off for years at a time. My aunt gave me what she could afford, which was this face lotion that she was selling through a Mary Kay-like company. I was about 8 or 9 and had absolutely no use or appreciation of something like that, but I also understood why she had to do that. I said thank you, took it home and my mom used it. It was the "worst", but I didn't mind. Even back then I was beyond that kind of thing.

Best Present: Green Kawasaki 175 dirt bike on my 14th birthday. Oh, it was beautiful. The leather seat and the chrome handle-bars glistened almost as much as my eyes when I saw that sweet ride. I had so many wonderful times on that bike.

Worst Present: Fruitcake (I hate the stuff.)

best present: a gifit given from the heart from someone close to me and who knew i wanted it and they really did not have the funds to give it ... I delay opening it even after 2-3 years

worse present: can't say... so many

I can tell my worst.

1. A gallon jar of mayonaise one year. Mom thought she was cute.
2. When I was 18, she said my gift was in the garage. It was. A tiny matchbox car with a bow. Even my brothers said that was a low one.

I think so far the best was a stuffed bear the year I was 16. I was so sick and could not eat. I got this huge bear to cuddle. When I moved, I couldn't take it with me and asked mom to hold onto it. She gave it away. *sigh* So many people have given away gifts they gave to me that I don't get too attached to gifts anymore.

My best was actually an Easter present. I was about 10 and I got up to see little paper footprints on the floor. They led into the spare bedroom to a box with 4 baby ducks that we raised then let them go at a local pond.

They were so cute!

When I was somewhere in my teens, I hinted to my family for months beforehand, that I'd really like to have the Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour. When I saw a present under the tree that, though wrapped up, was obviously an LP, I was sure I'd gotten what I asked for.

When I unwrapped the LP it turned out the be a greatest hits album by...the Shirelles.

It's not that I have anything in particular against the Shirelles. But, I wondered, was I that bad at communicating? Did my parents know me so little? Or did they simply flagrantly disregard my tastes and my wish?

I never asked them. The Shirelles album is still at the old homestead. And I still don't have Magical Mystery Tour.

Best present was not for a holiday. When my now husband and I were dating, he went on a missions trip. When he came back, he gave me this beautiful handmade wooden jewelry box that one of the men in the village had made. Hubby had gotten them to wood burn my name, "I love you" and his name on the top. Obviously, I still have it. :)

As far as worst gifts go, I have gotten too many to pick one. My grandmother is notorious for bad gifts. Her heart is in the right place, but she has no gift giving sense.

Worst: A pencil snapped in 3. From a Secret Santa gift exchange in grade 5. See thread about being cool.

Best: A smurf toy from my grandma when I was four years old.

Best: A written note for a book I was dying to have, but was backordered for months. My father, instead of just shrugging and saying, "Oh well, can't find it, I'll get her something else," decided instead to place an order for it anyway and give me that note (in a box inside a box inside a box inside a box) as his promise that I'd get it as soon as it came in. I think it was April before I finally got it, but I thought that was a very thoughtful thing to do.

Worst: A pair of really cool stretch jeans that was three sizes too small. My grandparents loved buying clothes for us and had decent taste, but that year just royally screwed up all our sizes.

I just recieved a best-and-worst all in one; an emerald, a truly spectacular near-perfect gem, something I've wanted forever... in a setting that is just not my style at all... but was carefully selected by my husband and daughter who fell in love with that setting, so I can't change it later. I think I can get over it, give me five minutes ;)

Man it is beautiful! I look at my finger and there is the essence of greenness sitting there. I never wanted a diamond. This is what I wanted.

You sound like me. ;) The stone in my engagement ring is an emerald. I love emeralds and I never really wanted diamonds either, and when my husband decided to propose, he took that into account when he bought the ring.

I'm glad you got just what you wanted. :rose:

It'll be so nice to look at it everyday Stella and know it holds so much love for you. That's so wonderful to be thought of so much like that.

HUGS

I know this feeling.:(

Best gifts ever are my children.

My mother today took care of me today like I was five years old again: drying my tears, easing my way, and then cloaked me in one of her fur coats (something I would never buy for myself) for my drive home. She said she didn't wear it anymore, but I really think she just wanted me wrapped in something of hers.

It started out a horrible Christmas and ended up beautifully.
