Why is feed back so difficult to come by?

I had a part of a story I wrote posted on this site yesterday, and was amazed that within the space of a day more than 13000 people viewed it. Of that 60 or so voted on it and 3 people commented on it.
it seems to me that readers on this site have become a little jaded and just trawl through it all with out feeling any obligation towards the authors whether that be ticking a star or two at the foot of the page, or shock horror - making a comment or observation.
Looking back at older stories it seems to me that it wasn't always like that.
This is just an observation from a very demoralised fledging writer

What obligations to authors? No one here has any obligations to authors.

Most people are here to read, not to stroke the writer or help with their writing development. And there's nothing in the rules that requires them to do more.

How many of Stephen King's readers send him comment notes, do you suppose?

Most reader are here for one reason, to get up and get off. If they finished during your story, they close it and rest. If they don't they are frustrated and look at the next story, hoping to get there with it.

Maybe the rating should be changes from stars to dicks. From limp to straight up. Maybe that might jog a mind or two. :D

Like the pilot said, the reader owes us nothing. Not even the price of the book that Mr King got.

Some of it's to do with the category you're posting in, too. The folks who read non-consent/reluctance stories are generally less inclined to leave comments than those who read Loving Wives. If it's feedback you're after, you could always try posting a story there. Be sure to don a bulletproof vest first, though. ;)

Gosh yes!! i did one for romance a while back and got hammered. Very first email called me some not very nice things for not stating it was a part 1 in the Title

Sounds like you got unlucky. On the whole, romance readers aren't quite so harsh with their comments - but having said that, they don't tend to hold back on telling you what they think. :D

So far I've only submitted chapter stories to Literotica so I've always indicated that an individual part is part of a series, but I know that some readers get very upset if they think they're reading a stand-alone story - only to discover when they get to page 3 that it's only the first part. I can kind of understand that - if all you're after is a quick fix, then it would be annoying to not get that fix after investing time in reading those 3 pages.

Don't be too disheartened. Remember there are literally thousands of stories here on the site - so actually, to get 3 comments is pretty good going, particularly for a non-con story.

Note the reference to 13,000 views and 60 votes in a day, too. Methinks it's stretching a mite bit to complain about lack of attention.

13000 views doesn't mean they read the thing! just clicked on it!
Am having whinge so shoot me now!!!

i am still finding my way around a very complicated site which has so much more than a few mucky stories on it!

it's a wonderful site and nothing else i've seen even come close to it.

True, but 60 votes means that quite a few people cared enough about what you wrote to click on those shiny stars. And it's not always easy to get 60 votes.

Here's the top-list for non-con stories for the last 30 days. http://www.literotica.com/top/NonConsent-Reluctance-13/last-30-days/?mode=publishes

See how many of the entries have fewer than 60 votes?

Now stop whingeing and get writing, okay? :D :D

Ask for feedback, like here, and go on over to the author's hangout and introduce yourself. And don't whine. Some folks will leave feedback at the story others will send it to you privately. Acknowledge all those folks who do comment or send feedback. I think that people who leave feedback went out of their way. It's not what I expect but I'm grateful for it.

AM suitably chastised and have got it off my chest evanslily will do as you so wisely suggest!

I get far more feedback on my series than I do on my stand-alone story. I think I must be quite lucky actually because I can always engage in conversation with my readers every time I post.

There's more to discuss and comment on with a series and people get attached to the characters, start to have their own opinions about them - if you write them well.

Sixty votes is a great amount to get in the first few days, anyway. You should be pleased with that in itself.

If 13,000 people viewed it the first day, and you got three comments, I would say you were doing fairly well. I only leave comments if a story really appeals to me.
