Flowers and Fishheads

I thought I'd start a space for Lit folks to express their gratitude (flowers) to specific people, groups, organizations, etc, or to express their dislike of the same, (fishheads).

I'd request that for the fishheads, if it is someone on this board, please don't use names and refer only to the specific behaviour, not the personality, if at all possible. (Not that I'm going to rap anyone's knuckles if they don't, I'd just like to avoid petty feuds.)

So, if you'd like to give thanks or wag a finger, here's the place to do so. I'll go first...


A big bunch of wildflowers to my local Co-op grocery store for supporting local farmers and giving us an organic, sustainable alternative to mass produced food.

A truckload of fish heads to new businesses who, in this day and age and knowing what we know, put open refrigeration units, (ie. huge power wasters) in their stores!

And also a boquet of desert flowers to the thoughtful Lit member who PM'd me to let me know my favourite movie of all time is on this weekend! You're a sweetheart!

*grins* Our local newspapers have these too.. One is "thumbs up, thumbs down' and the other is 'bouquets and buckets'


Right now, I'd say Flowers to the customer service people at the Jim's group. Not only did they respond to my online request for a quote in 15 minutes, but 10 mins after that, they had franchisees calling me to set up times to get cleaning and carpets done.

And fishheads to my current real estate agents for calling me while I was on holiday to see when I was moving out, and if it could be sooner than the 60 days I was given.

Flowers to the voters of Houston, Texas -- who despite a really dirty counter campaign -- just became the largest American city to ever elect an openly gay mayor.

Fish heads to {shush} Rep Bart Stupak who tried with the Stupid-Pits amendment to deny funding to any woman needing an abortion and who gets health insurance as a result of the national heath reform act.

And flowers to those who killed Stupid-Pits including my congers-woman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Name where deserved. Those in the public arena have gone past privacy.

Flowers to the Oklahoma City School System for passing an admendment that made gay, lesbians and transexuals a protected part of the school system so they can no longer get harrassed at school.

Fishheads to all the people that made it to where this has to be done.

Flowers to all of my friends who are patient with me when I become a reclusive bear with growls and all during hibernating season.

Flowers also to my husband who spent Sunday cleaning the house from top to bottom.

Flowers to the community center here for providing so many terrific programs, both athletic and artsy, for the young people of the town. It's nice to live in a place where the youth are so involved and active.

Heaps of flowers to my friends and family and especially to my boyfriend for helping to keep me sane right now.

A fish head to my room mate for being impossible to live with and for making me go apartment hunting during finals.

A fish head to my completely unqualified and stupid Writing The Feature professor for wasting my time and money and making me feel like I need to take the course again because I didn't learn a goddamn thing and its the fundamental course for me major.

A truck load of fish heads to the moron in charge for not creating enough sections of Writing The Feature in the first place, being forced to hasitly create new sections and hire anyone off the street to teach them. My professor being an idiot is her buisness, but that someone was a MORON enough to HIRE HER to TEACH? They should be fired. And I should get a refund. And a public apology. And they should be kicked in the shins.

Not like they had never ever in the history of UPS been forced to deliver a package to that building!

I hope you get the apartment you need at a price you can afford and it be just what you want.

As for the professor, I would complain to your advisor, or the dean of the department. There is no reason for you have to spend money for a class twice simply because the "professor" they hired is a dumb shit. I would ask to audit another of those classes for free.

I’d like to write a small, general note about this.

My 40th birthday (suit) photo thread was a one-time-only deal and won’t be happening again. I did it only for a giggle and with the consent of my SO. I’m not a shy person but I don’t make a habit of displaying my naked self to strangers. In fact, this was the one time in my life I have ever done so.

For those who enjoyed it and have since complimented me on it thank you. I hope you realize the thread was done in the spirit of fun and won’t be repeated.

For those who did not enjoy it or were offended by it, my apologies. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly that people on a board such as this would have a sense of humour and a relaxed attitude about such things. Again, it was done in fun and not meant to offend.

I can’t tell anyone what to write about here but I would appreciate it if this were the last mention of it, on the public board, as it obviously doesn’t sit well with some people.
