As I read the news report, I just could not believe my eyes.

Legislation has been proposed in Uganda that would severely punish gays, going as far as a death penalty.

This is unbelievable.

Seems Nigeria already has a law that can put gays to death as well.

Africa has major problems, none of them have anything to do with homosexuals but they make good scapegoats when 99.9% of the population is one color and anti tribe actions are outlawed already.

It makes you wonder if underneith some of these US religious conservative convictions is the same murderous desires. When have any of these same conservaitves spoken out against the murder of gays? Yet they have no issues being in the same camp with these African ultra-conservatives.

Yes but your argument holds a flaw, they aren't being murdered because they're heterosexual. In US society it's deemed less acceptable to kill a person for what they are then what they did. For example, a person goes out an kills a person because they're black would be frowned at more than say... the two individuals were in the middle of a drunken brawl. So in answer to your question, yes.

Now if your question was "is being murdered for being gay worse than being murdered for being heterosexual...?" then I'd say no.

Actually I think my point is fine, you're just either ignoring them or not picking up on them because your comment is totally unrelated to my previous comment. You want to say that a percentage of murders (or other violence) against homosexuals or transexuals has nothing to do with their sexual/gender orientation, I'll buy that, I personally think that is probably more so the case with murder and less so with other forms of violence. That said, it has nothing to do with my response. You can't compare apples and oranges and try to make a point about grapes.... well beyond the fact they're all fruit. The realistic comparison would be "how many people are killed a year or suffer violence because they're straight and how many because they're gay and is one more socially unacceptable than the other?"

Actually I can think off hand of a number of murders that have occurred over the last year that were clearly hate crimes, and that doesn't account for the multitude of rapes and violence and it's NOT all yahoo fuckwits. I friend of mine last year had his car trashed and the word 'fag' scraped into his paintjob. A month later he got beat up on the way to his car. He didn't live in the middle of bodunk middle of nowhere, he lived in Washington DC. Just this year their was a transexual ftm who was raped, his rapist attempted to electrocute him to death. To say that this type of thing doesn't happen in the US is naive at best.

Your whole line of thought is just to provoke an argument. We have abortion laws in this country, that does not mean that Americans condone abortion or embrace it. It is simply legal. I can see it now... a feminist gathering where they chant: "I embrace abortion!" It ain't going to happen.

It is also just silly to claim that anybody against gay marriage is really preserving marriage. If you want to "preserve"marriage you stop that which actually ends it: divorce. While some marriages may have ended because it turns out that one of the partners is not straight, the overwhelming number of divorces are not about homosexuality. Think of it this way, if some group was into the preservation of old homes, you would think that they would spend their time working on laws to prevent the tearing down of old homes. If such groups were instead fighting to prevent others from preserving boats because a boat in their mind really couldn't be a home nor a proper place to raise children, you would think they were nuts or actually more anti-boat than truly interested in the preservation of homes.

Also your political statements make no sense. McCain was not a conservative. He was a moderate. Many conservatives gave him tepid support, some simply didn't support him at all. Rush wasn't even a big fan of McCain. Obama wasn't so much elected because the US is a liberal country, but rather because of the conservative disillusionment with McCain because he wasn't conservative enough. Likewise, people pf all persuasions were fed-up with the wars. Aditionally the Republicans had been in power in the White House for 2 terms with no VP interest in running. All that is a receipt for the party in power to loose power.

To say one cannot criticize the religious right on the topic of gay marriage because not all people against gay marriage are from the religious right is like saying that one cannot criticize the KKK for being against civil rights because not all people against civil rights were members of the KKK. That line of reasoning makes no sense. The KKK was still very influential in its day, and is not immune from scrutiny over its positions.

Also by your logic, would you say that a man who beats his wife doesn't hate her or isn't intolerant of her because he hasn't killed her? There is more to tolerance than saying you won't kill someone.

BTW, Nigeria only has it in Sharia areas, not the whole country.

Also, just because only 7 nations have the death penalty, doesn't mean it's legal everywhere else. It's illegal in most of Africa, western Asia, parts of the rest of Asia, most of the Caribbean, and parts of South America. In most cases the penalty is prison time, in some cases it's physical punishment like flogging etc.
